I want an outlet device I can control with smart phone. I want to schedule an appliance to turn on and off on a schedule.

Is anyone using any smart outlets they like?

I've got a few Lutron Caseta switches and plug in receptacles that have worked perfectly.

I use the TPlink Kasa products.

https://www.kasasmart.com/us/products/smart-plugs

They work great but every once in a while they need to be reset.

I prefer the plugs to outlets, so I can move them around as my needs change.

I have about 4 switches and 10 plugs

I have several of the plugs around the house. My only complaint is nobody makes one yet that adjusts for sunrise and sunset. Cause of this I’ve got 4 or 5 frankensetups.

For the lamps I want to be able to turn off from phone all in a couple clicks while walking to bed, I have each of those outlets first plugged into one of those timers that can be set to come on at sunset +/- That energizes the plugs but of course they can only switch to “on” when they have power to them at their programmed time.

So, my solution is I have the WiFi plugs set to come on every 30 minutes beginning at 4:30 ( for winter) ending at 8:30. I have one off setting on them for about 11 for when we’re not home or have company who may stay up later than us.

So this way they all come on no later than 30 minutes after the timer comes on, and I can turn them off easily from app.

May sound complicated but once setup easy peasy.

I also have 6 or so switches on sunset to 11 timer switches. Eek I really like the auto daylight adjustment feature obviously.

I just started installing some Lutron RA2 Select stuff around my house, and they allow you to set your geographic location and use sunrise/sunset times and offsets from them in schedules - so you can set things up like outdoor lights from an hour before sunset to 11 PM and an hour before sunrise to a half hour after.

I don't think RA2 Select has in-wall outlets, though, just things that are like short extension cords with a box in the middle.

Also, it's REALLY expensive compared to some of the cheap WiFi options, but it uses its own dedicated wireless connection that has been totally reliable and instantly responsive so far. The other benefit of their wireless system is they make tiny remotes that you can surface-mount on the wall in a switch plate or put on a little stand that are powered by a coin cell battery that is supposed to last 10 years.

The Caseta wireless will work with and adjust for sunrise and sunset. You can program things to happen at sunrise or sunset and even set it up to activate at a given amount of time before or after either.

I have several of these in our home and have recommended them to others.

TP Link KASA Smart Plugs

And you can schedule them as you like, including with sunset and sunrise settings.

What type of appliance are you planning to control?
I assume 120 volt but how much current? I have my espresso machine on a Z Wave smart switch but the demands of that are fairly high compared to others. More info would be needed to give good recomendation.

We have a basic Amazon plug. Works just fine, even with the other voice things plus the Alexa app. It turns the fish tank light on and off on a schedule. We can do it manually or by voice (Dot) too.

When I referred to "plugs" I was talking about adding these to the location, not replacing the actual receptacle.

These are the things I'd really like to see someone make with auto adjust for sunset.

Lutron calls it their lamp dimmer. It's a little bigger than the one you posted but it does sunrise and sunset as well as time before or after, it's self adjusting for time change. I believe the Amazon smart plug does also.

My under and over cabinet lighting is controlled with the lamp dimmer plugged in and works flawlessly.

Eve Legato outlet is a solid performer for us. Lifx bulbs also are pretty great. We use Apple home kit, no hubs needed for either.

I have a couple of these that use the smart living app.
I will set a schedule and it will work for awhile then after a few weeks it will stay on or off and no longer go by the schedule.
I have my location settings turned off which may be part of the issue.
Sadly I don’t find them reliable.

TP Link's KASA software allows for sunset/sunup programming.

I've been using the Wemo products for a while, the scheduling is very easy, including sunset and sunrise that automatically adjust daylight savings. I'd recommend them.

Do you use them with IOS or Android? I started out with a couple of those, but the software just wouldn't play nice between my Android phone and the plugs. I finally gave up and returned them.
