Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, if the valve body does ever need replacing, they're usually accessible from the back of the faucet. Often a shower backs up to a closet in an adjacent room and you can go through a wall without going through tile from the front.

Thank you again everyone. I don't think I have a real Moen, the link I sent was just to show an example of what I have. The one in my house looks like a knock off and there is so much tile dust and drywall dust caked on it I can't even see if there are any markings on the valve. Is Moen the only manufacturing of those valves (posi-temp)? I doubt my builder used any name brand anything in this house because everything else is knock off junk. I would bet money this valve is a knock off Moen.

And yes I can access it from the back by cutting drywall, I'm an idiot for not thinking about that the other day but my friend mentioned it and I had a "duh" moment.

I had to work all day and basketball practice at night so I am going to fix it today. I was able to use the shutoff valves to totally shut off the water so it wasn't a major priority. I am going to remove the old insert and take it to home depot to see which one I need because apparently there are 3 different sizes. Worse case scenario will be cutting the dry wall and replacing the entire valve with a real Moen. Wish me luck!!

delta, kohler, speakman, grohe, alfi…….maybe more……….

delta,Kohler and Moen tend to be the most popular.

The cartridges all look different on them, so you might be able to ID what you have from lowes website:

Before you go cutting drywall, remove the handle and cover, turn off the water to the shower or house if needed, then pull the cartridge, they are not expensive, and while it would be free from Moen, take it to Lowes or Home Depot and get a replacement, install and have it back up in a day.

Call Moen, if that is the manufacturer you determine made the valve body and get them to send you a replacement per warranty and use it as a spare.

If they don't have it in stock, put the old cartridge back in and order it online...

No reason to tear the valve out, there is a replacement out there, generally the name is on the beauty ring, handle, shower head.

No the one I have looks exactly like the link I posted - I just don't think it's a real moen. Maybe it is though, I am going to pull the cartridge shortly and find out.

Yes this is the gameplan. I was just talking about if I had to replace the valve I would use a real moen this time as I do not believe the one I have is a moen but a knockoff.

But if it is a moen that's a great idea about calling them for the warranty anyway and keeping the other one as a spare. Especially considering I have 3 other showers and I am sure they used the same valve.

Post a pic when you can. Also, you might look at your sinks/toilets, they are likely the same brand as your shower plumbing.
