The avocado wouldn't taste like avocado in that cake. The almond and cocoa would drown it out. The avocado would make the cake very moist and creamy. I doubt it is for the no gluten crowd either. There are many cakes made with almond flour because they are delicious.

As for the most disgusting recipe: My mom has an old Pennsylvania Dutch cookbook. It has a recipe for hogshead cheese. Which isn't cheese, but is a mixture of various leftover parts of a pig in aspic. The recipe starts:

Take one hog's head . . .

And goes on from there.

The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

My grandma made us all fudge one year. I was excited. After taking a few bites and wondering what the F the odd flavor was, she told us that the main ingredient was Velveeta Cheese. I literally barfed right there, projectile vomited all over the carpet. I don't want cheese with my chocolate, thank you very much.

Looks like a delicious and healthy dish to me. Would you prefer to eat either lard or cream cheese that is normally used in frostings? I'll take healthy veggies any day.

Some of the stories in this thread remind me of a Ron White stand up comedy where a vegan accidentally ate beef broth and got sick. Ron's response was, "your system is kicking back........broth??? You're a manly man, aren't you."

We just made it!

My mom is visiting and I saw her looking at a cake recipe in my Costco magazine...and LOL'd as I immediately recognized it from the OP.

So, since the wife was headed to the store anyway, we had her get 5 avocados (we eat mostly Paleo so have the other ingredients on hand).

Bottom line; nobody you served it to would know it isn't regular chocolate cake or had avocados in it.

Now, they wouldn't rave about it either (I won't say "it's the best cake you ever had") but it was decent. The cake was very moist, but didn't stay together as well and the frosting texture was a bit off.

OTOH, for basically being health food, it was great! Kids ate it up and licked their forks clean (even after I told them what was in it.)

If made and tweaked multiple times to really dial it in, it could go head to head with regular cake no problem.

If you knew my uncles recipe for Mexican barbacoa you probably would not care for it (basically cow heads cooked overnight with different spices. When the heads are done everything is scraped out, put into a roaster oven with oil to stay warm). If you tasted it on fresh tortillas without knowing what it was chances are you would like it but it doesn’t sound appealing at all.

Menudo is vile. I can give you the exact time and date I last tasted it 45 years ago. I have had chocolate cake with avocado mixed in the batter and icing. Not bad. Can’t even tell there is avocado mixed in.

I’m sure you could use Brand X Honey and it would turn out OK. We buy our honey from the same farm we get fresh eggs from. The eggs are inexpensive. The honey is not. I think honey is one of the best things in the whole wide world. I wouldn’t waste good honey on a cake.

A cup of honey is a lot. One could do 50/50 honey and sweetener and cut the carbs and honey cost in half, or just use plain 'ol sugar. The cake itself tasted great, the frosting was just meh. Next time I'll just make the cake and skip the frosting.

Mayo in a cake recipe shouldn't be surprising when you realize you're essentially just adding eggs and oil.
