All potential jokes aside, I'm puzzled by this. Wondering if this is normal or just my local market? Been looking a bit lately on FB Marketplace at used pick ups. Now besides the usual shock, you know, why someone would think a run of the mill, beat up, rusted out 20+ year old truck with 370k miles on it (non diesel mind you) is worth $6500. lol But they're all Fords in my area. Legitimately, I'd say close to if not more than 90% of them are Fords? Next most common would be a handful of square body Chevy's that the internet has convinced the owner is worth $12k despite being a rusty out non running heep. After that would be a small handful of Dodges (which used to me the most common used truck to see for sale in person, out and about, in yards etc). Then a rare "modern" Chevy. (20 years old or newer) Then an extremely rare Nissan. Don't know if I've ever seen Toyota. There are more Internationals and more 70 year old trucks, than "modern" Chevy's.(or Dodge, Nissan, Toyota) No trade in value on the Fords? Just puzzled why the market is so lopsided. (again, Ford jokes aside) ![]()

Ford has been the best selling truck numerous years and there are plenty of fleet trucks sold. I wish I had bought a Buick block Chevy or Ford before prices sho tip. Since new trucks start around 50k and go up from there, the old trucks are popular and people do not feel bad paying what they are asking.

Thinking that the Cash for Nobody was selling their Dodge if it was purchased with their lifetime warranty. Nobody bought a Nissan back then and all of the Toyotas had rusty frames from NUMMI. Seems whatever was being bought in higher numbers as new will also have the highest volume of used vehicles later. Me? I have a few Dodge trucks, two F-150s and a square body Suburban... and no, they are not for sale. ![]()

Oh there are plenty of those. Lots of small scale and home based dealers buying them on auction from municipalities, large businesses and the like. Like Jeff Foxworthy's joke about buying a rental car being like going to a whore house to find a wife. I know from my 30+ years of employment at a state entity, I DO NOT want one of those. The miles on them should be viewed like dog years. lol Strangely my dad, who hated Chrysler products even before them, owned two Dodge pick ups. One originally owned by the NY State Thruway Authority and the other by the US Navy. Let's just say I have no fond memories of either of those machines.

"Can't find the title, first $850 takes it." Sure, I COULD pay $50 for a new title and sell it for $8500, but no, I'll take $850 instead. No reason to be suspicious at all. ![]()

Lots of fleet trucks, I'd guess. I know almost all our light duty [1/2 ton trucks] are Fords, with a small amount of Silverados. The Enemy's gate is down.

Funny I've convinced myself a lightly used F-150 with a V8 will be my next purchase. looks like it will run about 40k after all is said and done. Maybe a Silverado or Tundra if I find a deal. Ford sells boatloads of those trucks, which bodes well for parts availability for the forseeable future at least, and I dont hear as many transmission issues but I have not researched it obsessively yet.

I find facebook completely useless in terms of market place no usable tools and the results are for everything but what you are searching for. It is atrocious and a total waste of time. . "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Here's a more detailed breakdown: Ford: Leads in the number of recalls issued, with 88 recalls in the first six months of 2025, according to The Wall Street Journal. Tesla: Leads in the number of vehicles affected by recalls, with 5.1 million vehicles recalled in 2024, according to CarPro. Chrysler/Stellantis: Has the second highest number of recalls, following closely behind Ford. General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai also had a high number of recalls in 2024. Yes, because most of the manufacturers try to hide the manufacturing defects and just fix them under warranty, or in the case of the German companies hope they make it out of warranty so they don't have to pay to fix them, rather than a voluntary recall. No manufacturer is perfect, and post covid a lot of suppliers parts went down hill in quality. That being said, the reason there are so many Ford trucks for sale is because they sell so many AND they're still on the road. Whereas a higher percentage of GM and Dodge trucks made it to a junk yard or sitting in someone's back yard.

Hmmm, where is Toyota in that list? I know they had a recall a few years ago related to accelerator pedals, floor mats getting tangled in them, whatever, but that’s all I remember. Surely there must have been more?

I recall growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and pickups were one of the least expensive new vehicles you could buy. They were super basic often no radio even, and A/C back then was a very expensive option ( I didn’t have a car that had A/C until the mid 90’s) These days trucks have become so gentrified with all sorts of ( expensive) options and are now more costly than anything else. The manufacturers respond to the market, and as I now consider replacing or supplementing my current vehicle with a simple basic car for my work commute I find a lot of makers only make one or two models with the remaining focus on trucks and ever increasingly expensive SUV’s. Even basic cars like Honda civics or Toyota Corolla run 25K or more new. I just hate the idea of spending that much on a car! The ground floor on pickups now is the ford maverick which in its most basic form is still 30K I am sure we all recall durning Covid how cars were difficult to find and scalping prices were typical. Today as I drive past dealerships they are loaded with new cars - hopefully at some point the bottom will fall out of the market and cars will be affordable again!

I agree captain with your first two paragraphs mostly. I bought a more basic new F250 recently. It had some nice options I wanted. Unfortunately the truck had some issues either in production, more likely in transportation. It is not going to work out. But yes they are chucked full of technology, tracking devices, etc. It has gotten totally ridiculous in the last 20 or so years. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Now now. Can't have Toyota on the list because that would be against the narrative. Tesla isn't on the chart either. Neither is a category of 'other'. The 'floormat' recall also involved reprogramming the transmission as well as the vehicle control module. Simple enough, right? Also keep in mind that the pie chart referenced earlier (that I will not copy again) is not adjusted for total volume of vehicles produced.

A big chunk of Ford recalls may be from the Maverick. What about almost new Tundra engines blowing up? Tacoma frames rotting out in only a few years? Bottom line is all of the manufacturers produce vehicles with way too much electronic technology and junk quality parts to save $0.20 here and there. I drive a 2018 Expedition, it has just enough electronic stuff to provide a great driving experience. I got a 2024 Expedition for a month while mine was in the body shop because someone backed into my truck while it was parked. I don't need a 15" screen for every activity on the truck, I want buttons for radio and a/c and a smaller screen, so I can change either of those by feel without taking my eyes off the road. No i'm not 80 years old, I don't need the steering wheel to shake when I'm close to one side of the lane, or fight me if I switch lanes without a turn signal (or any other cars around). Or another 10 annoying features I found on the stupid truck.

Motor Trend says 1996 was apparently the last year that front vent wing windows were offered on a truck. (Appropriately enough for this thread, it was the '96 Ford F-150). https://www.motortrend.com/fea...ks-carbs-bench-seats
