gungirl226 rarely posted, but loved to read the forum. She particularly liked looking at Member 12131's photos of his German Mastershop pistols.
When she still had her health, she enjoyed going to the range and shooting her firearms along with deer hunting.
She was also an avid motorcycle passenger, and enjoyed riding ATV's and side-by-sides.
She worked as a heavy highway and bridge engineer, and would scurry across the tops of steel girders on a job site where a new bridge was being built.
She continued working (from home) telecommuting doing design and document review as recently as a few days ago.
By now, she was down to one thumb and one index finger that remained operational.


My dear girlfriend passed away yesterday at the age of 52.
She leaves behind an 18 year old daughter and a 23 year old son.
She battled ALS valiantly until she couldn't.

She started having some mobility issues starting in May 2025.
Her left ankle wouldn't move. (drop foot)
By November 2025, she barely walked using arm crutches.
She was diagnosed with limb onset ALS on January 27th, 2026.

Since the diagnosis, her mobility and health declined every single day.
Yesterday I was moving her from our bedroom into the living room using a Hoyer lift.
We had been laughing in the bedroom prior to moving her to the living room.
Coming down the hallway between the two rooms, I heard her take a deep breath and her head tipped forward. I spoke to her and she didn't answer.

Once out in the living room, I lowered her into her recliner chair and disconnected the Hoyer lift sling.
I reclined the chair so I could place my ear on her chest.
No audible heartbeat or respiration sounds.
Just like that, she was gone.

Anytime there is a unattended death without medical professionals present, an investigation takes place.
I called the Sheriff's Department who notified State Police and several Troopers showed up along with
a State Police Investigator. Eventually the ambulance showed up and I showed them her medical directive document that stated she requested a DNR.
The ambulance crew listened for a heartbeat, and then departed.

Eventually, the County Medical Examiner arrived, and later, the Funeral Home pickup crew.
I spent the remainder of yesterday making phone calls.

I do miss her.
I am also glad she isn't suffering any longer, ALS is a cruel disease.
