BeancookerA couple cool old bottles
My friend’s grandmother passed away recently. She’s someone who has been a big part of my childhood, and I have been in touch with her off and on up to her passing.
He has been left with the task of her belongings. Many were easy to disperse as they had family, or sentimental value.
Then there is stuff that old women collect, that most don’t care about. Laverne liked bottles. These two were right at the front door in the planter. Probably two of the coolest ones I had seen. They were given to me, so now I’ll have to find a spot for them at our house.
I haven’t done a Google search yet, but the brown bottle having the Federal Law warning, I think is pretty cool. If anyone knows what they are, feel free to post it. I may search later.
The plastic cap on the brown bottle is not original. It’s a cap from far, far more recent times than the bottle.
***ETA, Laxative bottle, and the federal warning was on all liquor bottles from 1935-1964. Guess they’re not that special. Still cool though.
Here are a few pics of them.

71 TRUCKYears ago when I worked for a fire protection company part of what we did was dig the water service for the water supply for the sprinkler system.
I was the service manager so I was only helping when the sprinkler crew was short handed.
One of the few times (about 30 years ago) I was helping we were working in a sea side town in New Jersey that had a lot of old hotels from the early 1900s and most at the time used an out house.
Back then, when the out house was needing to be re dug somewhere else the old one was used to dump stuff in.
One day while we were digging we hit what was an old filled in out house. We found all kinds of broken dishes and broken bottles however we did find one or two that were intact.
There is a guy on Youtube that goes around digging up old out house sites and finds some neat stuff.

ArtieSHa! The laxative bottle has gates on it. Like the contents inside will open the gates.

shovelheadLived in the Southwest for a number of years. Finding bottle stoppers was pretty common.
Out woodcutting one day found a partially buried intact whiskey bottle, knew it was old as it was a corked neck. A bottle collector dated it as probably late 1890’s but no newer than 1910 or so.
Lost it when we moved back east damnit.
