Generally, a "personal injury" settlement is not taxable. Exceptions do apply.

It won't be taxable. Settlements for personal injury are not income under the tax code. That makes sense - it isn't income, it is compensation for something you already had, namely your good health and intact body. If an award includes money for lost income, that is taxable. But a settlement will be structured so it is not taxable.
