We took the tour a couple of years ago. Very impressive communities. Our chief complaint is the summer heat/humidity and distance from family. We've been to Orlando twice in June. Miserable.

I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown

June and July, Aug, yep hot, humid, we go inside, turn up the AC, have an Ice Tea and chill, kinda our "winter set". Only we don't have to leave the house to shovel any snow, ever... Big Grin

Sept to April, best time of year ever, coldest is in low 40's for a few hours around 6 am, generally on the motorcycle or golf course same day. Months of spring time type weather.

The heat and humidity can be tough in the Summer. My wife was a Pennsylvania gal and, though she's lived here for pushing 40 years, the heat is still tough on her.

I don't mind it, even as an old geezer and prefer it far more than any time the temp drops below 70.

But I suspect it's an acquired taste.

We've lived on the water most of our married life, but now live a couple of miles from the Gulf in a smaller retirement house. Seems to be several degrees cooler than the area OP is considering in the Summer and several degrees warmer in the Winter.

I wish he and his family well in their search for a new home, but I also suggest it might be foolish not to visit the area in August before buying, if they've not been there during the Summer sometime in the past.

It's hot, it's humid and, it can be miserable.

A person in one of the coffee shops within explained that the women out-numbered the men 8-1 and it was like a whorehouse in quite a few homes with one going out the back door and the next coming through the front door. STD's were rampant as pregnancy was not a concern. I guess the peace and Love generation is alive and going strong!

When you typed '"lifestyle" visit',
did you mean "lifestyle" or "lifestyle"?

Confused

Is it just me?

Huricanes which could cause power outages lasting for several days to weeks and or months.. opressive heat and humidity / and last but not least is the mosquitoes...... Take a visit and stay at least a weeks time in the dead middle of summer before you make a commitment that you might regret. ................................ drill sgt.

I think months is overstating it. A week or two is possible, but I think that would be likely in the middle of nowhere.

And if someone wants the pluses of living in the tropics, they have to live with the minuses therein.

Ice storms and blizzards do that too!

Central Florida so hurricanes aren’t nearly as bad. All underground utilities too. I’ve been to Disney with heat at 100 in July and humid as hell. I like it. Maybe not waiting in line with a 2 year old for Peter Pan. But sitting by a pool with a cold beer is fine with me.

I read the Villages newsletter after a hurricane struck. The residents wrote that palm fronds were still on the golf cart path at 8 am. The resident was incensed.

The landscaping is incredibly well kept for such a huge area. Only disappointment so far is restaurant quality. Not the best for most places we’ve visited.
