Is it possible to do this without iTunes? And if so, has anyone actually tried to do this or something similiar?

I'm hesistant to plug my iPod into the computer for fear of screwing something up as I still use it quite often, and it would be terrible to lose all my old music. I'd like to back it up though to a computer or flash drive and then have the ability to also play the music off of my Galaxy S9.

I use a third party transfer- CopyTrans. After once of directly plugging my iPod into the PC and watching it sync an empty iTunes onto the full iPod, I learned my lesson. Look into something like CopyTrans.com and follow their directions.

Perhaps not as elegant, but you can save to mp3 format from within iTunes, then just copy to a PC.

If I remember correctly, iTunes sort of obscures the location of its file storage, so finding the files was half the battle.

Didn't iTunes scramble file names when the music was transferred to an iPod? It's been ages since I last used an iPod or that vile iTunes software so I may be somewhat hazy on this.

Did you have to purchase CopyTrans?

Cool, thanks. I'll look into that one and CopyTrans.
