The Max Trailer Tow package is a good package and available on 4x2 as well as 4x4. Among other things it includes a receiver hitch, heavy duty front sway bar, reinforced rear bumper, 36 gallon fuel tank, and an engine oil cooler.

AND a locking differential.

AND the factory electronic trailer brake controller, which works very, very well.

I have had several F150s this century.

Now I live in East Virginia, and we don't have mountains. We don't get much snow, until we do. My wife and I could decline to go to work if it snowed too much. I drive mostly on the highway, and there is not a city for 60 miles.

My wife has a 2001 F150 XLT V8 2wd with limited slip differential. It has a 160K miles. We love it. It is very reliable and capable. It gets over 20MPG. It got stuck once, in the wet part of a hayfield towing 2 tons of hay.

I bought a 2012 F150 XLT V8 2wd. Great truck, and got well over 20MPG. Nothing ever went wrong with it. It got stuck once, in the wet spring, when I was trying to pull the 2 ton boat that had sat in the same place all winter. But it had the front bench seat which my wife found uncomfortable on long trips, so she had to go in 2016.

I bought a new 2016 F150 XLT V8 4wd with the 302 interior package, which includes heated bucket seats and a console. Now my wife has a comfortable power seat. Just the ticket for long trips. I get nearly 25MPG on the highway at 55MPH. It is rated to tow 9,000lbs and has the brake controller and large gas tank. I get 700 miles to a tank of gas. It had a couple of recalls, which were addressed while I got the oil changed, but nothing has broken in 40K miles.

The V8 engine does make power at a higher RPM than the turbo V6s, but for my purposes, it is just fine. Without a trailer, it is lots of fun. It sounds like a V8.

In the days of my youth, almost everybody drove all winter in 2wd vehicles. The 2016 is my first 4wd truck and I got it because we started making round bales and now tow a 12,000lb bale wagon with it. Grass fields are pretty slippery.

It took me three months to find the F150 equipped the way I wanted. Must have visited 15 different dealers in three states. The electric trailer brake controller was a must have option for me, and no dealer ordered it. EVERY F150 (almost) had the trailer tow package, but very, very few had the brake controller. I finally drove 80 miles and found a dealer who knew how to order a truck. Got a great deal and they have a fabulous service department.

The F150 is a great truck, and does just fine in 2wd.

I have had many Fords over the decades and I will never, ever own another Ford. Every single one of them had problems/issues and the dealerships were no help. I currently have two Rams and have an itch to try a Tundra. Yes, they are a little more expensive, but I have had Toyotas and nay a problem.

My son has an F150 4x4.
He has the 5.0 It had lots of go off the line and plenty down the road.
He put a cold air intake on, simple install.
He then did the 5 star tuning. The thing really goes great now. Gets over 20mpg and he gets into it a little.
I have an F250 4x4. I really like my sons truck.

If you dont get a 4x4 make sure you get a locking rear axle. All 2 wheel drive trucks should have them as standard equipment. I drove 2 wheel drive trucks for years and there were several times that a locking diff would have been just enough to get me unstuck.

That has never worked for me. Not once. Not even close. Tried it with my F350, my Focus ST, a Mustang GT350 and most recently an Explorer ST. The local vehicles it "found" were whatever random vehicle the dealer had on the lot. I tried different zip codes where more dealers and larger dealers are located and it didn't improve. It's a joke and Ford should be embarrassed by it.

When you build online, you're going to get search results that are closest to you're build within a certain distance. I've never gotten random vehicles on a lot. The problem, is that domestic trucks have a thousand combinations of options and no dealer can stock all of them.
