High school football player suffers spinal fractures after senseless body slam
According to a WSBT 22 report, a Michigan junior varsity high school football player’s spine was fractured when a player twice his size jumped on him while he was lying on the ground.
In a video that has gone viral, a Kalamazoo Central (Mich.) JV player is shown flattening the Lakeshore (Mich.) player in a game last week. The Lakeshore player’s mother, Courtney Mims, said at first she did not realize the athlete on the field laying on the ground was her son, according to a New York Post Sports report.
“As soon as it clicked that it was, I couldn’t be stopped. I had to go down there,” Mims said via the New York Post report. “I’ve never felt anything like it. I’ve never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son.”
“These boys are high school boys. They’re 15 years old. The game means a lot to them. It’s their whole life right now. They’re there from before I get up to go to work in the morning till after dinner, putting in the work and for somebody to try to take that from somebody doing so much is awful for me to see.”
Mims said her son will be out the rest of the season and doctors are evaluating if he can ever play football again due to the multiple spine fractures because of the body slam by the opposing player.
“He’s out at least for this season. We don’t know if he’s going to be able to play again. He should and will make a full recovery,” Mims said.
"Then, while Colton is still on the ground, the hulking Lakeshore teen climbs off him, stands up and launches his full body weight back on the curled-up teen — pancaking him, the video shows."

Either intentionally malicious or, that hefty kid has mental issues with little understanding of the game other than '...coach told me to make sure the other guy stays on the ground' I remember there was a number of players on the JV team who had never played organized football, their parents didn't play and their overall understanding of the game was limited. They were on the team because they were big. After a season or just a handful of games, they didn't like how physical & violent it was and quit, never mind they were giants amongst their peers.

Has he been sent to jail for felony assault yet, or just given a stern wrist slap?

If I saw the correct pictures, they was both YT (<the fact we have to do this is stupid). And the big fucker didn't have any of the usual outward characteristics of being disabled.
Just seems like a big kid being a bully. Local team just had a freshman player paralyzed in similar fashion during the season opener.
A Perpetual Disappointment...

The big kid gave him the old King Kong Bundy splash.. that generally results in a five count. Clearly intentional and clearly delivered with bad intentions.

This occurred about a week ago. Here’s the school district’s statement,
quote:
In a statement, Kalamazoo Public Schools called the act "egregious," adding that the type of behavior was unacceptable and does not reflect the values of "sportsmanship, respect, and integrity" that the district expects from student athletes, coaches and the community.
District officials issued the following statement:
”An incident that occurred during Kalamazoo Central High School’s Junior Varsity football game on Sept. 19 was the action of an individual student who displayed an egregious act against a player on the opposing team. This type of behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity that Kalamazoo Public Schools expects from student-athletes, coaches, and the entire school community. The student’s behavior has been addressed, and the student involved has received consequences consistent with the Kalamazoo Public Schools Student Code of Conduct and in compliance with Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regulations. The district remains committed to ensuring all athletic competitions are conducted safely and respectfully. We are reinforcing our expectations with all student-athletes and coaches and will continue to provide guidance and education to ensure this type of behavior is never repeated."
The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) told News Channel 3 that Kalamazoo Central took the matter "very seriously," though they couldn't disclose the specific accountability actions due to student privacy laws. Their statement is as follows:
"Kalamazoo Central has taken this matter very seriously and they have taken strong and decisive action. Due to student privacy laws, we cannot disclose the specific accountability actions, but they have exceeded what MHSAA regulations would otherwise require in cases of dangerous and unsportsmanlike behavior."

Like what consequences???
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Any sports fans keep thinking that Kalamazoo Central High School sounds familiar? That is where major league baseball hall of famer Derek Jeter went to high school. He was Class of '92.

That action deserves crimminal charges as well as possible lawsuits against the aggressor student for any and all medical bills be they current or forthcoming medical bills.. This was way more than unsportsmanlike behavior..This was intentional. .....,,,,,,,, drill sgt.

YT, it's what the racists call us.
Never heard of this but I learn new stupid acronyms everyday it seems. So YT is short for “Whitey”. This is and better be handled as a criminal offense. Hell, should be a racial crime!
I swear, I literally get a headache reading and trying to understand social media texts between teens today. I have a long cheat sheet for most acronyms, but they keep changing and I will add this to my list.
