I'm having some issues w/ moss growth on the north slope of my roof (100 (concrete?) tiles). It seems that copper can help prevent moss growth - some of runs off during rains and kills the moss downstream. I thinking of getting copper strips installed near the roof top. 1. Is this a good idea or not? Any adverse effects or reasons not to do so? 2. If good, how much would it cost to do it right - I'm seeing about $40 per square foot. Sound about right? It's a single story, relatively simple roof. 3. Is this some thin layer of copper that gets glued to existing tile? Or something that replaces a line of tile? Around here they use zinc metal strips to do that. -Scott -NRA Pistol Instructor -NRA Shotgun Instructor -NRA Range Safety Officer -NRA Metallic cartridge & Shotgun Reloading Instructor -MA Certified Firearms Instructor

Zinc and copper will both work. If you don't want to install strips, they also make sprays which do the same thing, but it does require the additional time and effort of spraying the roof.

Did not know about zinc. Any pros/cons between zinc and copper other than perhaps price? Efficacy? Durability? Other? I have some spray stuff but the problem is getting to the top of the roof. I can cover the area near the gutter though. The other problem is roof access - unstable ladder in much of the area. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Copper is one and done. Zinc will wear out eventually.
