I have 180 Mbps download speed and I still notice it for a fraction of a second. I imagine 40 Mbps would notice it even more.

My Internet connection is Sprint’s cellular network. Download speed is ~70 Mbps for my iPhone X, and ~20 Mbps for my MacBook (older modem). All avatars, including my former 119x120 pixel avatar, are displayed at the same size, and I never see the “jumping” that some folks mention. That’s because I don’t use archaic browsers. Safari on iPhone, Safari or Firefox on MacBook.

Good grief Pipe. Give it a rest.

Dude, it has absolutely nothing to do with your browser. NOTHING.

He's just being a curmudgeon.

Seems like he doesn't like being called out (again), and doesn't want to concede that he was willfully violating the forum's avatar size rule, and had ignored multiple requests from fellow members in the past to correct it. So he has to convince himself that it must be everyone else's fault, in order to assuage his own wounded ego. Everyone else must just be luddites with archaic technology.

But if he's as technologically enlightened as he believes, you'd think he'd understand that his avatar was not just 119x120, as he has repeatedly claimed. Wink It was 408x412, nearly 7x the allowable size. You can see the original image in its original size in my first post on Page 1.

That, or he's just trolling.

Could you please stop being a jerk. Several people have asked you to change it. Instead of saying "I'm sorry, I'll change it," you blame others for your problem. Just follow the rules, it's not hard.

The fact you need to be asked this many times says something about you. Get over yourself, there are 80,000 other people here.

I've posted a resized avatar for rscalzo more than once and have simply been ignored. Hopefully this time you'll be able to get his attention.

That's just ignorant on his part. Perhaps a Mod or someone esteemed on the Forum could email him calling him out on this....

BTW his last post was 17 March.

Pretty sure mine is ok...

Having recently (last weekend) moved from 1 gig fiber to 4G LTE out in the sticks I've noticed a bunch of this stuff the last few days.

I waited 56 years to move to the place we live now but man it sucks not having decent net connectivity.

Thanks to all that have helped others on this issue, Mark

I hear ya. I just don't understand why it seems so difficult for folks to comply with such a simple requirement. Those that don't or won't really frost my proverbials.

Well here's henryaz's properly sized avatar. It may not be as sharp as Orguss can make them but it is the proper size.

It is a vector graphic, which I scaled down to 60x60. Right-click on the avatar and say "Open in a new tab", or "Save image to downloads". Does it still show big? When I do that, I get the 60x60 image (Safari browser)

This is my first time playing with scalable vector graphics. I suspect yours (and perhaps other) browsers may be re-scaling it back to the original size.

If that's the case, I'll find another avatar.

You scaled it down in a raster (pixel) based program, thus the loss of clarity. Vector graphics actually redraw themselves when you scale. It's obvious different browsers have different degrees of support for SVG.

Henry, it appears as the size I posted above which is MUCH larger than the ~ 60x60. This whether I open a thread page where you have posted or I click "view image" on your avatar. It, like others cited in this thread, flashes full size until the forum software strangles it into submission.

And yes, I D/Led your original large image with Greenshot and used Faststone to resize it.

I'm using Waterfox 56.0.4.1 64 bit (version of Firefox) with Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. But as explained earlier in the thread, these issues aren't browser or OS related but rather connection speed and the actual size of the image used as an avatar.

I just checked this thread in Win-10 using Edge and IE-11. Both of those browsers display the avatar as 60x60. This is one of those areas where the browser may make a difference. Which one do you use, bald1? A SVG (scalable vector graphic) retains all of the information in it about the original size, even though it has been resized. The actual size of the image I am using is 60x60, but the original size info is retained in there, too, in XML format.

I am just genuinely curious about how SVG is handled.

Well, Orguss successfully resized my animated gif avatar to 58x60 and now it's working again. I liked it better at its original size (113x115) but rules are rules. I thank him for his assistance.

Henry, I've indicated my browser and OS above. Here's what I get when I examine the properties of your avatar 451 x 476. Apparently svg formats, unlike jpg and gif, don't work properly scaled with this forum software as avatars.

But you also see in parentheses that it has been scaled. I'm gonna stop playing with SVG graphics until I understand them better. Smile
