Hooray! Steve Jobs was a genius. Cook is a bean counter.

“Apple boss Tim Cook has stepped down and named his successor in a dramatic leadership handover.

The Silicon Valley giant said on Monday that its long-serving chief executive officer will step aside after 15 years and become executive chairman.

Moving into the spotlight is John Ternus, 51, Apple’s widely respected hardware chief, who will take over as CEO on September 1.  …”

Tim Cook earned my respect when he told the FBI to pound sand in 2016. I really don’t know much about him but I’m glad he stood his ground.

Tim Cook has been too much status quo. Apple needs to be an innovative company again like it was with Jobs.

The stock kind of moving sideways for a long time was most likely the reason he was asked to step aside. He’s not a risk taker.

I did get annoyed enough the other to send Apple an email. Some things I’ve never understood about iPhones.

Why can I not pick and choose the holidays I want on my calendar? Why, when I delete an iMessage, am I prompted with questions?
If I wanted to perform your dumbassed suggestions, I’ll go do them.

I’ve sent similar emails over the years.

There's an actual engineer at the helm for the first time since the Woz.

Well, I certainly am looking forward to some new blood and some fresh products as well as some innovation which has been stagnant for years at Apple

There are 50,000 engineers working at Apple. If you're not seeing the innovation you expect, it may not just be the guy at the helm.

Tim did a great job of what his responsibility was; maximize shareholder value while growing, diversifying and stabilizing the company. Stock appreciation of 1,900% in his 15 years without Worldcom/Enron type fraud is virtually unheard of.

If that's a combination of being more conservative than a trailblazer, I'll take 10 more years of the same, thank you very much.

This is the kind of view I don't get. I'm not sure your definition of the technical term of "a long time", but in past 3 years +65%, 5 years, +105%, 10 years is +1,037%. Confused

Apple has been a core holding in my stock portfolio for 15+ years.

What new risks or innovations can Apple offer? How much more can you ask of your smart phone/watch/Ipad/Mac ? Perhaps Apple could venture into new markets altogether?

How about phones that don't shatter if you drop them? 50,000 engineers and glass fronts and backs is the best they could do?

I do remember the early iPhone 4 and similar being pretty breakable. Perhaps you still have one of those?

Since the early ones, they've improved dramatically in terms of durability with the Gorilla Glass generation from 5-X, and then even further with Corning Ceramic Shield from 12 onward.

I see people drop them all the time, and I've done so. While if dropped on an abrasive surface like concrete they can still get scratched I don't think I've seen any broken ones in years, other than children who sit on them.

The glass backs have continued to facilitate the wireless recharging technology.

I'm no Apple fanboi, but that's a good example of where they actually HAVE innovated significantly over the past 10-15 years.

I solved that problem many years ago with a $25 case.

I am happy to say that I've been in the same boat. And, I'm not selling out any time soon.

I think we are just at the very beginning of the hardware explosion that is being driven by the AI bubble. This increase in processing power will bring new capabilities to every aspect of IT we use, not just necessarily AI. What these will be is anybody's guess, but Apple has long been at the forefront of giving people what they don't even know they want yet. Jobs was a genius at recognizing a good idea and putting it into an actual product, Cook, a little less so. I wish Mr. Ternus fair winds and following seas in restoring Apple to the innovator it once was.

14 Plus in a case two weeks ago:

I left an LG V10 on the bed rail of my pickup. I retraced my drive and found it four miles away and after two left turns and one right turn. A guy saw it fall off, but didn’t get a chance to pick it up before a car ran over it. Shattered the screen protector but the screen was fine, no case, and it worked for another 8 months before I replaced it. Durable phones are possible and inductive charging seems to work with those plastic cases.

I heard a thing on TV about how Apple is worth 4 trillion. I said bullshit no way. Looked it up. Yep. 4 freaking trillion.

Except no company makes a flagship phone that doesn't have a glass front/back. You're screaming at an entire industry instead of Apple.

You don't believe Apple can build a phone better than anybody else?

I'm not screaming. The question was asked: "What new risks or innovations can Apple offer?" I offered a possibility that nobody is doing as an opportunity for Apple. Then I get accused of having an ancient phone and being too stupid to buy a case. Roll Eyes

On a positive note, I was unaware of the actual wealth he had accumulated while there. I am hopeful that he makes good use of that in his retirement years. Hopefully through programs at his alma mater!
