I don't get it. I've got three stations within a mile of each other in town. All three went from $3.19 to $3.49 for reg since Thursday. Local gas war maybe?

Yea...me too, but everybody else is saying their prices are going down. Maybe local price fixing is a better description.

So, what the heck is going on with gas prices? Right after the election, it dropped a little, then it slowly rose, fluctuated a little, and then held steady for a while. Then, in the last 3 weeks or so, it been shooting up to $2.70 to $2.80 for low.

Gas in my area shot up from $3.09 to $3.19 and yesterday to $3.29 for regular but there is one Sunoco station still at $2.99 for regular. Not sure why prices are spiking, maybe because of the conflict starting back up in Gaza or just the time of year when refineries start changing from winter to summer blends. Trump has only been in office for 4 months so it will take time for drilling to ramp up and get more oil flowing to refineries which will bring prices down.

Happens every spring. Switching from Winter gas to Summer gas as mandated by EPA. Summer grade is more expensive due to the oxygenates to lower reid vapor pressure so gasoline doesn't "evaporate" from gas tanks in the summer. Also, higher ambient temperatures make it easier for combustion to occur at lower reid vapor pressures (i.e. the whole if it's lean it's clean thing). Happens first in the South and then approx a month later happens in the North.

Essentially, summer gasoline begins moving through the logistics system and they're converting storage tank by storage tank starting in refineries, moves to distribution terminals, and moves to gas stations. When you're dealing with tanks holding over a million gallon and it takes 3 cycles to convert summer to winter then it's foolish to go backward. For a approx a month, the market has double the number of fuels with the same amount of storage.

Since Trump was inaugurated, we've stayed at $2.89 for 87 octane. While it's not what I hoped when Trump got into office, but it has stayed predictable.
