Orange construction barrels
My office is located on a major highway. The crews finished a two year construction project several months back. The orange barrels remain but there are no workers. When we had the last tropical threat they removed the barrels in record time. What is the reason that the barrels remain?

Could be the highway contractor doesn't want to haul and store all the barrels.

I can only speculate, but I did work for an excavating contractor one summer. Trucking is fairly expensive, as is the cost of a large storage yard. The contractor I worked for left things that were unlikely to be stolen where they were, until he could move them to the next location they were needed. That minimized his trucking cost, as well as the size of his yard for storage. In his case, if he wanted to park all his equipment and gear in one place at one time, he would have needed a yard at least twice the size he had, and if he wanted to be able to have room to work and access all his stuff, it would have needed to be 3 times the size he had.

Lots of those traffic barrels etc are owned by a third party, around here, Bob's Barricades, that sob must be drowning in money, his stuff is all over Interstates.

Imagine it's as much as DrDan said, costs less to move them from job to job than from job, to lot, unload, reload, to new job.

Call Brandon Johnsons office for clarification..

We have Bob’s down here too. Like you said, he’s gotta be rolling in it.

Does your state have a "higher fines in work zone" law?

I swear when NY first passed that, it seemed like 1/2 the Expressway had traffic cones on it. (the big orange barrel looking things like you mention. Someone's cousin must have owned the company that sold them) Mile after mile after mile of cones, no sign of work. No sign there was going to be work. No sign there ever was work, just cones.

I think traffic cones and big orange barrels are entirely different. The latter, filled with sand or water, are effective traffic barriers. The cones, not so much.

Serious about crackers.

Maybe they continue to bill the highway department for those cones?
Always follow the money when it involves contractors and government.
