Imagine if you will, Big Grin , an 18-inch by 5 foot shaft of sunlight from (being cast through) a widow in the western wall being displayed on the inside of the house's eastern wall and vaulted ceiling.

The shaft of light was about a foot of it was on the wall and the remainder on the ceiling (an "extended" beam of light as the ceiling is not perpendicular to the setting sun).

Of the sunlight passing through the window, we saw the shadow cast by the sun (think; the shadow cast by the bottom edge of the window) move that distance (of five feet) in less than 30 seconds.

The sunlight didn't just "fade" away. We saw the shadow cast by the setting sun move up the ceiling (vaulted ceiling).

Short of drawing a rectangle and shading in half of it to depict the shadow moving, not sure how else to describe it. Maybe the conditions will be close enough this evening to capture something close? (Or I have to wait 72 years...)

Deep breath. Slow down.

Use your words.

Nah - I give up. Pics are needed Big Grin

But similar to what OKCGene noted, something really cool to see one or two days every six months and only if the cloud cover cooperates.

The light from the setting sun was refracted by the window to the ceiling and reflected by the ceiling.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

That's just it, not refracted. Just a solid beam of light through the window onto the ceiling. Because of the beam's clarity and angle of the ceiling, the shadow of the window's base was seen moving - similar to a flashlight's beam being moved in a dark(er) room except; the light coming through the window got progressively smaller until completely gone.

HMMMM, LS1 GTO, are you being sneaky? Something about that kept tickling my memory. I had to pull out a lot of dusty boxes of memories in my old brain, then it finally clicked.

The "Imagine if you will" is part of the old Twilight Zone narrated by Rod Serling. I can't find a video clip, but he did it.

Coincidence or what? HMMM

Cue up the music theme from the Twilight Zone.

LOL - yes it was intentional. Meant to describe just how wild it was. (Think of a time lapse photography of a tree's shadow but in real life the shadow moves five feet in 30 seconds (or less).)

Have my alarm set and camera ready.

Though no where near as bright as last night, anyone know where to upload a video? Big Grin
