Having commuted to Chicago for seven years, I’ve seen my share. 4 digit plates are not as rare as I would have thought. Three digit plates are pretty rare and usually, but not always, mounted on vehicles that I can’t afford. I’ve probably seen more than than a dozen two digit plates but only once did I see a single digit plate. I can’t swear to it but I think it was number 6. I was going home from work on the Eisenhower and I saw it for just a few seconds before he took an exit. I’ve also seen a few that had three letters. What low numbers have you seen and from what state?

FL 28 belonged to a guy in Elmhurst, IL, and I saw it there and in downtown Chicago many times.

Since you're from IL I'll give you a chance to figure out whose it was. Clue, he was quite famous throughout the country.

I had number 2.

Yeah, that's the ticket. Number 2.

And my wife had number 3. Yeah, that's it, number three. Morgan Fairchild, whom I have slept with.

Yeah.
Number three....

I was passed, at high speed, one time on I-15 in Montana by plate #2. Yep, it was the Lt. Governor of Montana. He was an uncle to my secretary.

The Governor had #1.

Wyoming has county numbers plus plate numbers, so each county has, for instance, county 12 - plate number 2; county 3, plate number 2, etc.
I have county 11 - plate 2501. As plates go with the person, I will have that number until I no longer have a vehicle.
The lower number usually means a long time resident.
Our state vehicles have an "S" designation instead of a county. Governor has S number 1; wife has S number 2; Secretary of State has S number 3, etc.
My lowest state vehicle number was S number 188.

Our new plates have a P for passenger and a T for truck. A person can live in county 12 and have 12P number 5 for passenger and 12T number 5 for his truck.

WV disallows any plates with only numbers from 1-2000. You could have 2 letters or a number and letter, but no numbers only through 2000.

The WI DOT site has an easy way to check what’s taken and what’s available. I’d think most States have similar. Of course those lowest digit plates(as allowed) would be gone.

I went with ‘284-WIN’, one of my favorite rifle rounds. Yes I know, the 7mm-08 is very lose to the same. I still like the 284 a little more. Maybe it’s because we were both born the same year?

It is here in mainland UK, as well. A1 is owned by Rolls-Royce, and AM1 by Aston-Martin.

A well-known classical musician, who lives in our village, owns EV4 - her initials. One local podiatrist has BUN10N.....

Spiffy number plates are HUGE business here, with many fetching tens of thousands of pounds.

Here in Vermont you can request a low number plate from the DMV. They will assign one to you as they come available. They are only four digit plates. One interesting twist… If you have both a car and truck you can get the same plates on both. My wife and I both have these. Lots of people see them and tell me you can’t have two vehicles with the same number. Car plates only have a number, truck plates say truck.

I have a three letter plate, my initials.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I’m not sure that’s correct. Governor gets 1, First Lady gets 2. Close family and friends come next before other state officials and “leaders”. A friend had 7 until he died a couple years ago.
