My doctor has recommended farxiga for my high blood sugar levels. I am not taking any medicine for it at this time. I would like to hear positives/negatives from your experience with this drug.
Have been taking it since my heart failure 4 years ago. No problems as far as I know. Only taking a half dose (5mg). My cardiologist seemed reluctant to prescribe it at first, warning it is a very powerful medication.

Your insurance might want you to try lower cost medications, like metformin, first to see if that will handle your issues. I know someone who had a good drop in A1C in that time but couldn't go to a higher dose due to mild "metal mouth". His doctor coded that as the maximum dosage and asked for approval for another drug in addition. It was approved.

How high is your blood glucose? Mine was 190-200 and I was on 1000mg metformin 2xday and 2mg glimepride. My highest a1c was 7.8 and I was about 25 lbs heavy.
Doc wanted to add more meds but mid April 2024 I went hardcore keto for 2 months. No added sugar, few carbs and intermittent fasting.
Weight dropped off, lost about 25 lbs. Blood sugar 120-130. My 1st a1c after losing wt and stopping sugar was 6.5. Doc was impressed but insisted on another a1c in 6 months to see if I could maintain. 6.3 was my 2nd a1c test.
I was taking 3 blood pressure meds, all low dose generics. I stopped all them and my bp stayed about the same. Cleaning up my diet, cutting way back on sugar and intermittent fasting works for me and maybe placebo effect but I feel much better taking no prescription meds, especially gut health.

I guess I missed that part in my search for potential problems!

a1c was 7.4. Doc also said I needed to lose 25 pounds by my next appointment. Maybe that is a magic number?
