The first Cracker Barrel Restaurant is going to be built in Victorville, CA (on I-15, high desert north of L.A. on way to Las Vegas). I enjoy CB when I travel the country and once they build one, maybe more will be built in CA. Sort of like when In-N-Out went to TX. I enjoy their comfort food. Anyone know why it took so long to come to CA?

I'd take a WAG and say it would be the insane level of regulation that CA has compared to other states. I work for a large company and whenever they announce some change in business or benefits or something that is applicable to the entire company, there's ALWAYS a caveat in the announcement that goes like **except for California; local rules and regulations still apply**.

High costs, regulatory suffocation, lots of entrenched competition.

Victorville seems like an odd place to start. If it is the SoCal-Vegas traffic you want to try for, Barstow might be better.

There is a Sizzler in Barstow that I imagine might be the highest grossing unit in their entire chain. Tourist buses are in there one after the other, taking folks to/from Vegas. They do a tremendous business there.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

As a fan of Cracker Barrels elsewhere, I've found their Las Vegas store by Bass Pro Shops underwhelming. How a chain can't produce repeatable results is beyond me.

CB sux. Bad food, surly wait staff and crowds of fat people. I'd rater eat gun show hotdogs on Sunday. And is Victorville really CA?

Congrats on CB arriving in my native state!

Though we are nearly surrounded by them here in the South, we personally don't eat at them unless travelling. Just one of my family's habits that we started several years ago.

Some members of my immediate family and I do hold the distinct honor (?) of having been ejected from a CB - that might be good fodder for a later post. Smile

Wife likes it, I don't.
I get the shits everytime I eat there, even with just a BLT.
But congrats if you like it... Big Grin

We got In-N-Out here a few years ago.
I ate there once and that was enough, I don't get the appeal.

I like Cracker Barrel but there are none close enough to me. When I go hiking in WV we alway hit up one on the way out on Rt 66 for breakfast.

Probably because they spent a lot of time thinking of new product names that are more latino sounding and politically correct.

Cracker Barrel is our go-to place to stop and eat while driving long distances. Decent food for the price. Can stretch your legs a bit in the store or relax in the rocking chairs. We like it better than just whipping through a drive-thru. But interstate driving is about the only time we go to one. Don't think we've ever been to the one here in town.

But it's going to take a lot more than a new Cracker Barrel to get me to go to California Wink

I can explain In N Out to people who didnt grow up with it. Its like your moms meatloaf or spaghetti, nothing else tastes right to you. Thats how it is with us and In N Out burgers- its what we've been brought up with and thats our burger.

CB is ok, but they've never learned how to make decent biscuits or cornbread.

That is the perfect description of my one and only trip to the one near us. You only left out 1.5hr wait times for tables.

They just established a store here in Oregon.

Haven't been yet, but hopefully soon. I liked them way back when I was in IL.

I've only been to Cracker Barrel 5 or 6 times, it's been many years since I've been back.

The wait is always terrible.

The food is just okay.

Maybe I'm unlucky but I always find stuff in my food that shouldn't be there...a twig in my salad, a piece of plastic bag with a staple in it, a hunk of broken glass in my turnip greens.

I refuse to go there anymore.

Is no one happy that a business is doing so well that it's expanding, creating jobs in the process? Get away from "the food sucks" and look at the bigger picture.

I lived in the Victorville area for 20 years (1983-2003). It, and the adjacent cities of Apple Valley and Hesperia, grew exponentially when I was there, with a brief halt when George AFB was closed, and more since then. As for Cracker Barrel, it's passable and cheap. Next they need a Waffle House. Razz
