A heads up to our PNW members on a new pest from China. These evil buggers have the potential to wreak some havoc on our crops and other agricultural products that depend on pollination.

ScoobaruDude, murder these things... when I visit the PNW I’ll be slinging a can of starting fluid and an aim ‘n flame. This is the last thing WA state needs.

Yeah, it'd just be my luck to survive COVID and our commie governors extended shutdown only to be killed by a bunch of these monsters.

Oat_Action_ManAre these only suppose to be in the PNW?
I saw a big mofo that looked sorta like that, seemingly making its way behind my cedar shakes this afternoon.

All I've heard is that the only verified sightings are in western Wa. so far.

chongosuerteWe had something that looked like that in NC when I was growing up...parents even called it a "Japanese Hornet". Huge, mean looking thing. And not a Cicada killer.
Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.
Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Probably a European hornet; they’ve been around for decades. 2-3X larger than a Bald Faced hornet (The black and white ones)

That makes sense, because the only VERIFIED sightings have been in western Wa. and WSDA has been all over it.

HayesGreenerWhen I was in Southeast Asia working with some SF guys we learned the Meo (Hmong) tribesmen had a dirty trick for their enemies where they would take a nest of these damn things at night and plant it in their enemy's camp. There was hell to pay when the sun came up.
