I have a Social Security card, a Selective Service card, paid federal income taxes and did tax returns for 45 years, applied for and received Social Security benefits, passed numerous NICS checks, applied for a National Parks pass, etc. You think they’d know me by now.
I made an appointment tomorrow to get a TSA PreCheck card. If another card will make them happy...
A very good friend travels alot mostly for work. A few years back he got Global Entry to make getting back into the US less time consuming. He was a little annoyed like you that he really needed to go through all the hoops. FWIW he is USSS and routinely fly's armed as well as walks through the WH armed.
He also walked into his interview armed.

While corporate IT departments are focusing on a new wave of data security threats, including WannaCry, an even bigger threat looms and nobody is addressing it.
I'm talking about the rules around laptops, tablets and smartphones during business travel.
The new risk of air travel data exposure is coming in two forms. First is a laptop ban. The other is a policy of smartphone data extraction.

Get ready for the coming business travel crisisI used to *love* air travel. Not any more. Between the Gestapo security theatre at airports, airlines treating their passengers like cattle, the increasingly irresponsible operation of airliners and the air traffic control system, and the (admittedly remote) possibility of terrorism: I want nothing whatsoever to do with getting on a commercial airliner.
