Heavy rains overnight in the northeastern United States left parts of New York City under water on Friday, partially paralyzing subways and airports in the country’s financial capital.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) declared an official state of emergency for the city, Long Island to the east, and the Hudson River valley to the north, warning people to not travel on flooded roads.

rizzleIf they park enough EV's in those flooded streets they could boil all the water away.

mcrimmWe landed at JFK around 7am today with the intent of driving a rental to mid Connecticut. 119 miles total distance when avoiding tolls. No problem. 10 hours later we made it to our first night hotel. Asshole drivers, detours, closed areas, asshole drivers - Wheeew. It sucked.
On to Rhode Island and Massachusetts tomorrow. Then time in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire until Tuesday. After that my wife and I have visited all 50 US States.

tatortoddMy coworker's son lives in Brooklyn, and rents a place with a main floor and a basement. 3" of water in the basement and he showed us video of flowing current.

OrgussI just saw video of New York City and people are shown going down into the subway as water cascades down the stairs around them. Can someone explain if the third rail can electrocute someone on the platform?

PASigI saw that the Mets-Phillies game (@Mets) was postponed tonight, I guess that was the reason. The tweet just said “due to weather”.

whanson_wiGoing into a subway when the streets are flooding shows more faith in the subway's drainage system than I can imagine... or an utter disregard for gravity.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

ranger312My daughter lives in Brooklyn, works in Manhattan, (Fridays from home luckily). When I talked to her last night, she said it wasnt too bad where she lives. She is in the lower level of a brownstone a few steps below street level, but the back of the apt is grond level and slopes away so hopefully she will be ok. Her husband had meetings in Manhattan all day but he made it home OK on the subway last night.
P.S. She is trying hard to get out and back to the midwest.
