I've been trying to convince my GF to move out for several years, with no luck.

It's sad that choosing where to live these days includes concerns for violent crime and left-wing politics, but at least the two usually go together. Avoid one, avoid the other.

They "Feel Good" dreaming up and passing law after law after law even though most of them are unpopular and do nothing to improve anything. IMHO: The only law ever passed that really improved the life of the citizens was the pooper scooper law. At almost 70 years old, and as a kid growing up, someone regularly steeped in dog crap and tracked it into the house. We routinely heard "I smell crap, who stepped in crap" and we all had to lift our shoes for a visual inspection. The pooper scooper law cured that problem!

I told my GF (now wife) that there was no way in hell I would live in IL again and if she didn't want to move then we would be done. Turns out she didn't want to live there either though her family is still there. Her sisters family is trying to get the hell out of there by the start of the '19-'20 school year.
