Fresh out of college the first 3 jobs that I interviewed for I lost due to affirmative action. I was more qualified but they had direction from HR.

It happened two more times when I was laid off. "If you were just a minority...."

Nothing new. Several of the PDs I applied to, even back in the 70s hired minorities over whites. My kids had to pay their way they school while minority scholarship funds were there, often unused, waiting for the taking. And my favorite when applying at Univerities and colleges, " women and minorities are encouraged to apply". This crap has really rubbed me and others the wrong way. In fact, look at the large percentage of minority employees at local and federal government jobs. Pisses me off.

I would like to add, try being older and white.
I've been looking for work in my old field (telecommunications) for 5 years.

Most times you hear nothing in response to job applications, sometimes you will, saying 'we're going in a different direction. Once, just once, I got a reply saying 'you're an excellent candidate, but we've hired someone else.' This was one day after the opening was listed.

Maybe there is hope, I just saw a news blurb that said 'white and Christian are now a minority'. Yeah, when pigs fly will that ever matter.

Sorry for the cynicism.

I, despite having a perfect record and 15 years of experience in the field, lost a job once to a black.
The interviewer actually stated face to face to me that the company had lost 3 blacks employees in the last year and he had been ordered to hire a black man for the job.

They did.

The man they hired also had lots of experience... years in fact, at a horse barn cleaning stalls.
