SPWAMike0317Wireless dog fences?
I had an Invisible Fence and it worked pretty well.
When the power was on.
Some dogs learn the boundary and, after a time, no longer need the collar to respect the boundary.
Rufus was not one of those dogs. Rufus was a Golden Retriever. A mischievous, smart, lovable devil. Rufus would patrol the perimeter and test for the buzz before the shock. When he heard/felt the buzz, he would back away. One day the power failed, Rufus did the buzz test, very likely smiled, and bolted. He wound up at a local garage eating pizza with the guys. His partner in crime, Sheba, was sitting on the porch when my wife got home from work.
My take? The invisible fence works for most dogs and I'd bet later versions can be configured to eliminate the warning buzz for dogs like Rufus.
Only one other problem:
backhoe fade. The local cable installer sliced through our invisible fence. It was an easy fix.

pace40I think it depends on the dog. My neighbor has 2 Labs. I get a visit from one 3 to 4 times a month. She comes over to play with mine. His other one stays home. She comes and climbs the steps to my deck and sits until I let her in. Good news is he always knows where to find her. He said she just takes a running start and bolts through the fence shock be damned.

PerceptionProbably depends on the dog. I know of 4 people with one manner or another of wireless fence. It works great for two of them. The third worked great, until one time it didn't and the dogs got out and went charging down the street at some people out for a walk. The dogs were friendly but didn't look it and it definitely caused some drama and animal control got involved and they had to put up a real fence. The last family has a Doberman. I don't know they leave the fence off sometimes and the dog tests it regularly, but it got away a few times and now they don't trust it outside off leash.
