I've now done VA > FL and back and PA > NC and back on Amtrak and have to agree. Our train system is in the Stone Ages compared to Europe (my only point of reference) and probably most of Asia. It's downright crude and ramshackle for the most part, was really shocking.

Amtrak is literally the DMV of train travel, there is no situation where I'd bother riding it.
