There is this thread:
“How did SIG forum get started?”
https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/2370014784

But there are (currently) few serious posts in it and my question isn’t answered there.

I’m pretty sure that it started small and much like the Big Bang it quickly filled the space. I was a member of the forum when it looked radically different - almost unrecognizable. I remember it like it was 20 years ago.

A lot of effort has gone into getting it where it is today.

Para's join date is Jan 2000, so I'm guessing around then in this format.
Well predates me, so I don't know the origin history of it all.

I don't know the history, but I looked in the internet archive and found this as one of the earliest captures from sigforum.com.

This isn't meant to brag but there are a few of us that have join date's prior to Para's. I don't believe Para started the forum but did take it over and him and LBJ have made it what it is today. I could be wrong, maybe he just made his current name after he started the forum, I can't recall how it all went down.

Prior to the forum, a few of us were on the Julian Frost Sig Email chain. It was prior to message boards we know today where we were all part of an email group that shared info.

I know there is at least 1 member with a December 4th, 1999 registration date and I believe that is the 1st day of the forum.

I could have sworn it was earlier than 1/1/2000.
My guess is that date reflects a big concern at the time, Y2K, and how computers operated relative to dates.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in the give us the real story.

I just observed my 16th anniversary on SF, so I'm not in a position to know its early history. I'd think Para would be able to answer your question.

The forum was owned by someone else back in those days.

IIRC, both were moderators when I joined.

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she is bad, he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Trying to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be

I remember finding it in 2000 and joining but had to redo my name/membership after one of the software upgrades. Went from member name Mars to 10X-Shooter. Changed the join date too. I can’t remember anything about how it happened.

I joined the "Blue Version" sometime before 2000, I remember the long thread starting about the Y2K crisis that was about to happen. After a software change had to rejoin and the new version kept saying that the username was already in use. instead of bothering anyone about it I chose another.

Nick owned this and several other OEM-related forum all running the same software. Colt, Glock, S&W, Ruger, BrenTen, H&K.

He got into trouble selling / hosting a group buy of full cap Glock mags from overseas which may or may not have completed successfully and sold off the forums - S&W / Ruger / SIGforum which para & lbj bought.

Obviously this is the forum they kept after sourcing the other two out.

I do recall a "Parabellum" on the Ruger forum.

Something about upsetting the mods

If I remember correctly the email message group was called SIG-L. I remember some other member talking about SIG Forum so i came over and joined. It doesn't seem like it was over 22 years ago.

Can’t recall my first coming across the forum, I was deeply involved with C&R at the time and Sig Sauers were a lark.

Smitten by the quality, had to have an P220st.

I could pro ably triangulate with its purchase date.
