Give it All You Got was the theme song to the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid NY.

Chuck performed at the opening and closing ceremonies.

Frown Feels so Good was a big part of my 12 yo summer of 1978. We’d camp out in our wood “fort” and replay that song over and over amongst others.

Loved the “King of the Hill” gags with him.

Too many losses this week.

My wife didn’t think he was a real. She thought I made up a name and a musical instrument because Chuck Mangione playing a flugelhorn is exactly the kind of thing I would make up. I told her she would recognize his biggest hit. She denied it was possible. Then I played the song and she remembered it from her childhood. Then he was on King of Hill. Happy trails, Chuck.

Just Damn.
As a trumpet player in HS graduating in 82 he was a big influence.
He is why I played the Flugel horn in the concert band.

Mangione was well known in his solo career, but jazz fans tend to forget he was a member of the Jazz Messengers with Art Blakey and Keith Jarrett in the 1960s.

Thank you for posting that video, Synthplayer. I heard that a lot but never knew the title. I was a jazz fan before starting just before George Benson’s Breezin became a hit.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." When I played the trumpet in grammar and high school for about three or four years, I wished I could play like him.

RIP

(I was terrible.)

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.
