stzd8Question to ppl doing home fixing, about doors
Ok,
Me and wife just about to close a condo apt in a month or two after all the paperwork and bank stuff. Everything looks good but then I had a photographic memory moment.
Our door is next to the neighbors door. So that means either us or them gonna feel that door slam or closing . I have been brainstorming of a way to remedy this.
I know replacing door is not answer but is there a way to soften the impact of the door and frame? Neighbor agrees on the issue. Neither wants to get the jolt at night when either us closes the door.

bigdealSimply agree with the neighbor to pull the door shut gently. That's a cheap, rather simple solution.

Chris42Slow door closer on each door? You open, walk in and it automatically closes behind you.

I have one for my office entrance. Requires constant adjustment depending on the heat and humidity. If the door to the waiting area is open it slams shut. All in all it is better than the door being left open a good bit of the time.

sigmonkeyTape some fingers to the door jamb.
(...or maybe it's the screaming in pain that overwhelms the slam if the door. It's been a while.)

stzd8well neighbor is cool to understand issue, but even casual closing does bother some to both parties.
The problem is having the door next to another. we might look into the slow door thing. Theres no way any of us is gonna slow motion the doors all the time. At least we dont throw the door but I hope nightime doesnt turn into battle of the neighbors.

sig operatorIs door weather stripped? If not it may help.

FredwardIn the women's prison I once worked in, the convicts put adhesive sanitary pads on the doorframes, but that may send the wrong message.

stzd8if u mean by the rubber strip around the frame as the weather strip then yes. LOL, sanytary pads on the frame would give a message alright.
So far it slips once a while closing hard, but is not intentional.

MikeinNCWe have self closing door from the garage to the house, the hinges can be adjusted ...they are code here in TX for garages, in case the car is left running and you forget to close the door.
The door closes softly. I’m sure you can get them at Lowe’s...the top and bottom hinges have them

stzd8cool will look at that. Never though about hinges. So with this they dont have to thorw the door?

BigJnSAWhy not just put a little stick-on rubber/urethane/sponge pad on the corners of the door frame?

HRKNothing more than courtesy closing the doors is going to make a big difference, even upgrading doors isn't going to solve it.
New weather stripping around the door frames won't hurt, it will help it seal better and it's not expensive...

stzd8thanks guys, I guess we gonna try hard on closing lightly specially at night. I hate the damn architects for coming up with this design.
Also kicking myself for not noticing it when was looking for condo shopping.

This is definitely worth a shot.
I HATE wood-on-wood noisy doors. Spent I can't say how long putting little pads or bumpers on every doorway, cabinet and drawer in each of last three houses after moving it, but it does quiet things down a lot. Just take the time to see where first contact is and start near there, adjust as necessary for proper latching, etc.

Nope, just open the door let go and walk inside, the door closes all the way and can be made softer or harder. This is on a solid fire door and it doesn’t thump
