They seem to be about $3 a piece these days. Pretty expensive but thankfully I'm well stocked. What device are you using them in?

flashlights mostly. But would prefer to use in anything rather than straight junk Alkaline.

Eneloops are great in flashlights at higher current. Sure LiFeS2 has longer runtime at lower current levels but they cost quite a bit more. NiMH have come a along way and LSD NiMH last awhile in storage.

If you want to save money on batteries, go with 18650 flashlights. You can get 18650's cheap ($1.50 a piece) and chargers are readily available.

If you don't want to change flashlights, see if your flashlights will accept 3.7v 14500 batteries. Although they aren't cheap, they are rechargeable. You can also get 1.5v AA lithium rechargeable batteries but the capacities aren't great.

Energizer Ultimate Lithium from Amazon, free shipping. ~$3per in a 24 pack for AA. ~$2.25per in an 8 pack for AAA. The three best features I find are long shelf life (10+ years), longer use life, and no leaking, even when left in a device unused for a long time.

I also use the Eneloop rechargeable NiMH batteries in my bluetooth mouse and trackpad, where spares and the charger are right at hand at my desk. All other devices get the lithiums.

I also use the 18650, and more often the 21700, rechargeable Li-ion cells in all my flashlights. Great light output, and long life on a charge if you use a mid range lumen level (which is plenty for most use cases). I typically use 350 or 500 lumens in lights that will go up to 3000+ lumens. 350-500 lumens is plenty in lights with a high candela rating (more spot than flood).

When in doubt, mumble

Costco? Have you seen them there?

I have never seen non-rechargeable lithium AA or AAA batteries in the store, nor can I find them on the Costco website.

Gave up my membership last year so maybe they don’t carry them anymore but used to grab Energizer AAs for my trail cameras.

I know Sam’s has them for sure just got a bunch about $2 a battery.

Sam's definitely has them. I saw them there last week, although I didn't note the price.

I've never seen them at Costco or Sam's, either.

The solution is not to use lithium primary batteries in everything. Personally, I use Eneloop or Energizer rechargeable AA and AAA batteries in just about everything. The only things that get lithium primary batteries are things that are rarely used.

Btw, guys: A non-rechargeable battery is known as a Primary Battery.

Jesus Christ - that’s how much they cost?!?
I gotta admit I’m lucky - my company used to partner with Energizer, and they would just send thousands of lithium AAA and AA to the office every year, just to make sure all the engineers were using them in their daily lives. I haven’t bought a battery in 10 years.

I keep Lithium Batteries in my seldom-used flashlights as they are good for 5-10 years in storage.

I've lost more flashlights to alkaline leakage than I'd care to count.

At $2 per battery, I'm paying $4 per flashlight that I can be sure will work when I'm sitting on the side of the road, or hunting for the interlock on my panel during a power outage.

Seems like money well spent to me.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I guess Gibb. Hate spending 2-3 bucks of a small battery.

Thanks guys.

The cost of most everything is a shitty deal these days.
