For all the launch watchers, an Atlas V will be is scheduled to launch from the Cape at 5:02 PM. Weather looks goof for the rest of the week, no high winds, clear skies and temps in the low 80's. The Atlas V is carrying a GOES Weather Sat. Heres that Link thingy

I am eager to see how that GOES.
I love smoke and noise.

I miss living in Cocoa Beach for a lot of reasons, the inbound/outbound space traffic is a big one.

I might jump on the Hogley Davison and cruise over, then again, since I'm batting 100% on shit failing when I go to watch, maybe just walk outside and look east....

You know it’s sad I have been with the company for 19 years and never seen a launch. Been to the Cape and launchpad many times. Maybe I will get down there to see a heavy.

I saw a night shuttle launch in December 2006. I was at Shades of Green in Orlando (~35 miles away) and it was impressive. In 1982, I was at Vandenburg AFB and saw a night launch of a MM3 from about 1 mile away. A launch from a silo is really cool. Here's a video. Note the smoke "Halo" at the 28 second mark. Most of the videos of MM launches have this.

How far away from the Cape is a launch visible on a clear day?

I can see it from my front yard in Port St Lucie if there are no clouds in between.

The last SpaceX launch was visible in Lecanto, FL about 130 miles away.

Yep, and it's hard to miss, too. At least the few I saw from Tampa.
