I have a leased vehicle with contract that expires at the end of February. I need tires but do not want to spend nearly $1,000.00 for new Bridgestone 235/55R20 tires. I have 9K miles left to reach my 45K limit. I have found an online site advertising used tires for really nice prices. Anyone used utires.com or have another source for used tires? Thanks.

I'd buy some Chinese brand for new than trust used tires. You don't need to spend $1,000. More like $400

Where I live, there are a lot of local resources for used tires. I had no idea that used tires are sold online. I have employed used tires as a stop-gap more than a couple times.

I'd look local. Probably be able to buy them and have them installed for less than you'd pay for tires+shipping online.

That's a decent option too, I suppose, in your case.

I am no expert, but I've experienced a couple off-brand tires have some degree of internal separation, resulting in bulges. I think a used tire from a reputable brand/origin is more likely to just wear until it's unusable, rather than experience oddball issues.

I tried used tires several years ago, and it was a mistake I'll never repeat. I remember at least one of them wouldn't even hold air.

If you can, buy new tires that are cheaper. If there is some prohibition in your lease, see if you can negotiate something with the company you lease from such as an early trade-in for your next vehicle?

A set of new chicom 20" for $400? Eek

Tires have gotten really expensive. 5 years ago you could buy a set for $800. Now more like $1300.

Things are really screwed up.

Used to me would mean newish take off's. Go to your local tire shop.

My experience with used tires is that by the time I pay for installation, I'm generally most of the way to new tires with only questionable used tires to show for it.

I don't know how good a deal you've found, but discount tire's cheapest set in that size is $528.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Used tires are a gamble. I would go with the Discount Tires option. Be sure what the warranty covers. Sometimes cheap tires will develop a bulge or a leak that can't be corrected so DT's warranty should cover that.

Long ago I always bought DT's cheapest tires and got good service out of them.

There are several used tire places here, one has multiple locations.

I've bought a few tires for turn ins from them, and I inspect the tire before buying, making sure it has enough tread to make the requirement, look good and after mounting drive good.

Generally less than half the price or less installed than new.

I'd drive on what you have now unless they are shot, and do the exchange 30 days before you turn it in.

Many years ago when I was a poor college student I needed a new tire for my car. It was damaged, the other 3 were still good, and buying a used tire for the meantime seemed like my best option.

So off I went to a local garage/gas station/tire shop/etc. As the guy was showing me a couple of "good used tires" I noticed another employee using what appeared to be a much larger soldering iron than I was used due to my college hobby of electronics.

The man was burning in new deeper grooves to match the rest of the tire thread appearance, making a tire that was obviously worn out to appear have good thread depth!!!

I said eff this and left. Learned my lesson before it cost me $$$.

Thieves always thieve and are always looking for a new way to separate others from their $$$.

What does the lease say about condition on return? This is probably normal "wear and tear". I doubt they expect new tires.
You can't make it 5 months without?

As I understand the question you need tires now and you need to drive on them yourself for 9K miles? There are certainly good used tires, I have often sold tires to my dealer for various reasons and they would be an outstanding buy. But the dealer would know and be able to tell you the history of the tire. I'd buy a new set of name brand but lower end tires ($800) and then move on and be happy I am safe for my 9000 miles.

Or if your current tires meet the legal wear requirements for lease return, remove them now, install a new set, when you go to turn in the vehicle remove the new set and reinstall the current nearly worn out ones and sell the now nearly new used ones. Probably the lowest cost option. I did this on a long term lease truck and it worked out great.

Just my two cents but the only thing on your car that should be in as good a condition as possible in tires. If you’re driving along at 70 on the highway your tires are the only thing keeping you from crashing.

And they’re used for a reason. Are you willing to risk it?

Damned Skippy.

It's pennys over the life/mileage the tires provide.

One of the least costing expense of operating and one of the most important for safety over those same miles.

And 5 years is about max for them regardless of miles driven.

Rubber deteriorates and even though tires "look" fine, old tires can fail catastrophically with no warning.

I've gotten used tires plenty of times, but always in person so you can check condition and age. Never a problem, gotten some great deals. But I wouldn't do it online, sight unseen.

Years ago I tried buying a used tire and going down the road late at night in a rural area the tire blew out on me and left me stranded on the side of the road so I'm not a fan of used tires. Where do these used tires come from, how much tread life remains, how have they been stored, how old are they, whats the price of used tires compared to buying cheap new tires? All questions that need to be asked and answered before throwing down your money. If I wear going to buy used tires it would have to be in person so I could inspect the tire prior to purchase.

In some instances if you lease another vehicle they will overlook things like excess mileage or tires that are near the end of their life span.

I've bought used tires before. Check out your local Facebook marketplace ads. Decent number of people are selling their factory size wheels/tires to go aftermarket wheels/tires.
