PASigWhat does sausage have to do with Groundhog Day?
I'm from PA where this started, and I've never heard of anything to do with sausage along with it?

dsietsBecause it tastes better than groundhog?
Oh. Never mind, and no thanks.
Groundhog Day is Saturday.
https://mix1051utah.com/life/g...es-for-goundhog-day/"My Buckhannon claims this year’s Groundhog Festival, in Rock Cave, West Virginia, is going to have 30,000 pounds of groundhog sausage.
The festival only sold 600 pounds its first year in 1994. The festival’s special Critter Stew will also be offered. It has groundhog sausage, elk, antelope, rabbit, bear, chicken and venison."
People like blood sausage, too. People are morons.

PHPaulI was thinking sausage=ground hog (pork).
Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Yeah. In the little MO town where I grew up, the Christian Church and the VFW always put on Groundhog Day breakfasts of pork sausages and pancakes. I thought that was a widespread tradition.

Pipe Smoker“PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — It may be hard to believe as a large swath of the U.S. thaws out from a bitter polar vortex, but spring is coming early, according to handlers for some of the country’s most famous prognosticating groundhogs.
Just before 7:30 a.m. Saturday,
Punxsutawney (puhnk-suh-TAW’-nee) Phil emerged from his burrow in Pennsylvania at sunrise and didn’t see his shadow. Nearly the same series of events unfolded about 300 miles (483 kilometers) to the east, where Staten Island Chuck’s handlers also revealed the same prediction.
The festivities have their origin in a German legend that says if a furry rodent casts a shadow on Feb. 2, winter continues. If not, spring comes early…”

casI don't care about the groundhog or groundhog day... but why do so many other locations feel the need to do it too? I mean, are the tourist bucks just flowing and people coming in from around the country to see Staten Island Chuck?

KasinefectThey run that poor critter out of his home on Feb. 2nd each year for a purpose he cannot even imagine. Just for the hell of it, what would they do if the groundhog had developed rabies? I bet they would forget all about the weather forecast!
