I have a Casio watch, a heavy stainless case with a battery quartz movement, whose battery lasted less than a year. I have not experienced this before. So I have two questions:

Q1) Is it common for fresh watch batteries to last less than one year, for simple "dumb" quartz movement watches without any kind of programming intelligence and bluetooth etc ?

Q2) Are there better quality batteries that likely to last longer ? And what type would they be - aka Lithium, etc. ?

Expired or nearly expired battery was possibly installed. A local jeweler puts new batteries in my watches and I get 3 years out of a battery. I dont know what brand he uses

Generally Casio watches outlast their predicted battery life. So, one year is pretty short. It sounds like a defective battery, which happens. I like EverReady batteries, for my watches. If you DIY, be gentle with the thin o-ring for water resistance.

I have had that happen. It could have been a battery that had been sitting around for a long time.

I have always used Varta batteries for my watches and they last for many years!

Is your Casio analog or purely digital?

If its digital it should last on average 3 years or more depending on how often you use the backlight or other functions. Digital models use 1 lithium battery that have a shelf life up to 7 years tops. You can only install the same battery the watch came with. Brand wise my shop prefers to use Sony and or any other Japanese brand the Swiss Renata are the same but cost more.

Some models have a compass etc that you can't turn off that drain batteries quicker.

If you give me the module number the 4" digit code in the rectangle I can look it up.

Depending if the contacts are dirty or very rarely defective batteries I had to wait 2 months for the size 2016 one of the most popular sizes since all of them were bad from the factory Sony. First time in 20 years I've seen that happen.

It's an old Casio 2701, mens stainless case analog. I don't see any rectangles on the screw in back plate.

Ok the 2701 is the movement number I needed. The model of the watch is AMW-320R I know this watch very well. Analog hands with a small digital display at the bottom very popular watch.

It runs off of 1 single (371) 1.55 volt silver oxide battery. When the watch is new it will run about 2 1/2 to 3 years. Now if it will last 12 months or less on a fresh battery it indicates the movement/watch is on its last leg.

How old is the watch? Depending 10-12 or up to 15-18 years is the usual life span of a quartz watch.

Unfortunately you can't replace the movement outside of sending it to Casio if it is the movement its easier and cheaper to replace the entire watch.

Analog batteries only have a shelf life of up to 4-5 years and are more prone to leaking vs a lithium. Keeping fingers crossed that it was a old battery installed.

Only fix if was the watch to buy more time is to blow out the gear train and put a drop of watch oil on the gears that move the hands.
