I went to a Tesla dealership yesterday morning to buy a new Tesla model 3 with FSD (Full Self Drive). I intended to let it drive me home after trading in my Genesis G70.

But they’re back ordered, so I put down a $250 deposit for a Model 3 that will arrive in September. Business must be good. I couldn’t get any price concession except that they agreed to let me have three free months of FSD rather than one. Then $99/month automatically charged to my credit card.

Premium Rear Wheel Drive with some niceties:
* Ventilated and heated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
* 15.4-inch central touchscreen, 8.0-inch rear passenger touchscreen, and a 9-speaker audio system.
* acoustic window glass for a quieter ride, and a powered trunk lid.
* “quicksilver” exterior paint.
* 0 to 60 mph <5 seconds and delivers an EPA-estimated range of over 320 miles.

I’m getting to the point that I suspect FSD is a better driver than I am. Tesla styling is mundane, but I now consider cars to be utilities, so that doesn’t bother me.

For those folks that don’t like automatic transmissions, rest in peace. One fixed reduction gear, then direct drive to differential.

Also my dash cam problem (or lack thereof) is solved:

Find the newer Tesla charging stations around your area, you need to download the app and get it setup with your account.

I was close to getting the Tesla Model Y but got a better deal on the Equinox EV from Chevrolet otherwise I'd have the Y.

One of the highest American made content vehicles made, in fact I think Tesla is the highest USA Content.

Are you able to install your own charger at your home? If so I can get you straight on what you need to get that done.

I live in a condominium, so no home charging for me. The board considered, and rejected, it. But no problem. I don’t put many miles on a car, and many of the places I visit have EV charging spots.

I did download the app and the sales guy set it up for me. A fairly tricky operation.

SDG&E is a disguised branch of the California government.

Welcome to the dark side. Once you take delivery look at getting a home charger installed pretty quick. WAY cheaper.

Maintenance is adding washer fluid & rotating tires.

I recently got a Camry Hybrid and that's a whole new thing for me. Still getting used to it.

Example, my EQEV is slower to charge than a Tesla due to the architecture of NACS vs CCS or J1772 charging systems. However the IONNA CCS is 400kW the EQEV really likes this greater kW power, I can charge from 30 to 80 in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Understand that manufacturers suggest you only go to 80% for normal daily driving, it's quicker, less expensive and easier on the charging systems. It can take twice as long to go from 80 to 100 as it does 20 to 80%. I do go to 100% on weekends when I drive 100+ miles to my dads, mainly because it gives me an extra 30+ minutes to eat my DQ ice cream while watching a movie on Prime on the cars big screen!

The cost to charge depends on where you go, time of day, some of the chargers here are over $.60 per kWh.

The most I've paid is at EVgo near me, it has a fee to connect and then $.54 per kWh and the cost was about $25 to go to 100% from 40%. On Average I've see in the low to mid teens. Way less than my F150.

EVGO - $.54
Tesla - $.64 to .57 during peak
IONNA - $.39

At home will be whatever your kWh rate is based on the time you charge, we are on a rate plan that discounts electricity costs at low use times or, raises it at peak whichever description one chooses. So we plug in and I have the schedule set to run from midnight to 6 am and stop. So far it's rarely started early to make the charge level set in the software.

Teslas are really efficient with the electricity, I can provide some insight since we have an EV. For that Matter my EQEV has been pretty efficient.

So far haven't see range decreased with AC on, can't say on heat though we don't really need it, and on the few cold days I just turn on the seat heater.

The insurance on my 2025 EQEV is slightly less than the coverage I had on my 2003 F150, and the wifes was a bit less than a 5 year old Lincoln MKC. Go figure.

Pipe Smoker, down load the PlugShare app it is one of the best at giving you intel on chargers, cost per /kWh, location, if the chargers are in use or not, speed of charger. All that is important depending on what you need.

You can also find free chargers around you, and you can locate them near your favorite haunts. Set them as a favorite in the software, I think WalMart is installing chargers starting in California at their stores, and here Target is getting Tesla, WaWa has Ionna or Tesla.

In SoCal there are a lot of EV's so you absolutely want the app to make sure the charger isn't reported down, big cities have tweakers that want to steal the cables off chargers for the copper.

I would also get

EVgo, ChargePoint, and any other apps for prominent stations in SoCal.

I’m retired and mostly drive around town. I charge about once a month on average.

I was in a position where we already had solar power on the house with a power wall and the charger in the garage.

Again, congratulations. You’re going to love it.

What was the dealerships asking price for the one you bought with the options it has?

Looks like a base 3 is about $39k

friend has a Y and loves it,

he is also in a Condo so uses a drop cord over night, (he cane park behind his condo)
and plans trips based on distance to, and availability of charging stations,

he did a cost comparison, and I wanna say he was getting the equivalent of 60+ MPG but don't quote me on that

We’ve had our Model Y long range since ‘23 and love it. As said above it’s virtually maintenance free except for tires and windshield washer fluid.

We have tried FSD several times and while it is getting much better it is not completely hands free 100% of the time so please be careful. I expect in the next year or two it will be true FSD.

One of the great things about Tesla is that they are constantly sending out over the air updates to the software for free and improving the car. Amazing.

I understand that the OP lives in a condo but if you can get access to even 110v standard outlet it will help keep your costs down as you should be able to get 3-4 miles per hour charging on a regular outlet.

The other great thing about a Tesla is that the navigation is the best of any vehicle I’ve driven. It will automatically route you around accidents like Waze and route you to Superchargers if needed along your route.

It is also one of the safest cars made…

Congrats, the people I know that have them all like them. One friend of mine has over 60k in the last year using FSD.

They are only back ordered there. Here there is a Tesla stealership and the lot is completely full of cars. The Cyberfuck is not selling at all anymore.
