It’s absolutely genuine. You have to be able to laugh at shit like this. I couldn’t survive a day if I couldn’t laugh at the bad shit.

Balze Halze. Incredible. That sounds really fucking painful and it makes me cringe.

Blume9mm. I have spent years in the gym, on the mats, boxing, etc. what happens when you land a punch without wraps on a human... you don’t hurt your wrists. The human body is super soft when you hit it, even on bone. The head is a little different, but the neck still swivels and has more give than a heavy bag. A body shot like I threw, that does damage to a wrist on a heavy bag, breaks a rib and has plenty of cushion. Wrapping wristS does allow them to build muscle and strengthen the tendons, etc.

Thank you all for your support and words of kindness. I really do appreciate it a lot.

***Update...

Fractured the Lunate bone. She said it was good I rolled the wrist when I did so, or I would have done much worse damage. I also have advanced arthritis in my wrists where the Lunate, Scaphoid, Triquetral, and Pisiform bones meet the Radius and Ulna. It was so bad on the left, she ordered images of the right and reviewed those with me. I was given an injection of Cortisone and Lidocaine, and a wrist brace. She said I’m three weeks into healing a fracture and with the current state of COVID and needing to wash hands, she went with a brace. It’s a pretty damn good one that is as effective as a cast, but it comes off.
As she explained, the bone that fractured is like a peanut, and I split it like a peanut. I have minor swelling and the tightness of the ligaments and tendons held it in place and it is healing well.

She also had some recommendations/advice as far as sports and activities. This part blows goats for dimes like a desperate talib.

She explained that if I live another 40 years, it is assumed I would probably enjoy the use of my hands for those years. If I keep up with high impact activities like boxing and BMX bicycle riding (jumping, wheelies, trails, etc) that I could lose the majority of my mobility before I’m 50-55. (I’m 45, almost 46).
She explained that most people in their 70s and older do not have arthritis like I do in my wrists. It’s beyond cartilage loss, her words were “you have lost enough bone that they aren’t shaped the way God made them”. What is odd, is I don’t have much stiffness, or soreness. Until now I had no pain. She said this could be due to the deadening of the nerves from these sports. Now it used to hurt a lot years ago, but I just figured the pain was weakness leaving the body. Guess it was both pain and common sense leaving the body.

I asked about the speed bag. Since it isn’t as heavy or impactful as the heavy bag, she said it is okay for now as I shouldn’t lose all the joy in exercise. She wants to reevaluate the wrist in a month, and again in a year to see what the bone loss looks like.

So at the end of the day, I sit here, and think to myself, I am blessed. I don’t need surgery. I have a job, and a good one at that. I am healthy aside of this hiccup. I think of what Para said a while back. I’m alive. I’m blessed. I have the most amazing wife sitting next to me watching shit I hate to hear (America’s Got Talent, the voice, American Idol). I’m the luckiest guy alive. Tomorrow will be an even greater day than today.

Thank you all.

Damn dude, sorry to see the bad parts of the update but glad it won’t require extensive/expensive surgery.

Actually beancooker I feel your pain, like I said I've been through things like this and now as the years go by it takes longer and longer to heal.

when I tore the tendons on my hand I realized after a couple of weeks I should have gone to a doctor....

the good news is I really had no choice with the broken vertebrae ..... time will heal it.

and your rebutle to my comment about taping up makes perfect sense... sometimes it is obvious to me (after the fact) that I didn't know what the hell I was talking on about...

Like you, I am reminded everyday of how blessed I am to have what I have.

Noah,

Glad you have a sense of humor and that it is just a fracture with no major medical intervention like surgery involved.

When my sons could run faster than me I realized I was getting old. And damned if that wasn't almost 4 decades ago! LOL The old adage about the mind being willing but the body not certainly applies. Big Grin Big Grin

Your injury sounds like the impact athlete's definition of aging -- when you can generate more power than your body can stand. I am quite a bit older than you, and I keep learning this lesson. Good Luck slowing down.
