Does Seattle ever get anything right Seattle’s Trump-baiting Mayor Jenny Durkan may have ordered the wrong streetcars for the city’s transit system. As the Seattle Times reports, it’s the latest transit spending boondoggle to beset the Pacific Northwest community. The mayor has already prepared the city’s residents for the possibility that the $52 million spent on the project could all go down the municipal drain. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) wanted the 10 new streetcars in order to merge the current system, where the lines are separated. But the ones that they ordered are probably the wrong size to fit the tracks, as the new streetcars are substantially larger than the old ones. “It appears the error will require either a change order for design of the streetcars or incur new costs for construction of new or retrofitted maintenance barns,” wrote Lisa Herbold, a Seattle councilor, in a municipal blog post. Cost overruns have already characterized the streetcar project. Durkan initially announced that it would cost $150 million but that price tag soon rose to $200 million. As Fox News points out, Durkan’s time as mayor has been marked by is hostility to many policies of the Trump administration, including illegal immigration, climate change and abortion. http://dailycaller.com/2018/07...or-wrong-streetcars/

Hey no problem convert the streetcars into shelters for the homeless. I am sure it is OK with the taxpayers.

I remember when they launched the South Lake Union Trolly. They promptly changed the name when the acronym found its way onto tourist items, such as teeshirts, with the saying Ride The S.L.U.T. ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

If you can't efficiently run your city... point your finger elsewhere and shout "SQUIRREL!". None of the things he is stirring people up about Trump have anything to do with running a city. The exception, of course, is illegal immigration, which if they had less of it they could clean up the city. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Too busy drawing straws. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. These are the people building the Billion dollar tunnel through glacial silt and a fault. Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
Just one more in a long line of examples of malfeasance. Riddle me this, in the three county region there is no less than four different transit outfits (King Co. Metro, Pierce Co. Transit, Community Transit, and Sound Transit) they all have separate administrative hierarchies, facilities, etc. They all interact with overlapping service areas, cooperative/complimentary routes, use joint bus stops in areas of service overlap, accept each other’s fare passes and provide transfers to each other. Why can’t there be a single, coordinated regional transit authority and have a single administrative overhead? Oh, because they are all little fiefdoms and more taxpayer money can be wasted by having multiple administrative entities, and multiple/competing taxing authorities. A single, coordinated agency might be able to put together an efficient mass transit system, but that is actually counterproductive to their goal of keeping everything as screwed up as possible and then pointing to that as a “reason” for more projects and taxes. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???
