https://www.psychiatry.org/new...-armchair-psychiatry

"WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) reiterates its continued and unwavering commitment to the ethical principle known as "The Goldwater Rule." We at the APA call for an end to psychiatrists providing professional opinions in the media about public figures whom they have not examined, whether it be on cable news appearances, books, or in social media. Armchair psychiatry or the use of psychiatry as a political tool is the misuse of psychiatry and is unacceptable and unethical."

In a statement that shouldn't surprise any normal person other than democrats and the media that Long distance diagnoses of mental health are unprofessional and unethical, hurt their profession and need to stop. Something that everyone except the media and democrats have been saying all along........

And, I suspect, with strong emphasis on the last. I doubt there’s really all that much concern about an individual practitioner’s ethics or professionalism, but when some of what they’re doing borders on voodoo and peering at sheep guts, making it obvious for the world to see is never a good idea.

The desperate left, actually diagnosing themselves. Nothing new, no original policy, they just repeat the same lies hoping their useful idiots drink the kool-aid.

quote:

“A megalomaniacal, grandiose omnipotence appears to pervade Mr. Goldwater’s Mr. Trump's personality giving further evidence of his denial and lack of recognition of his own feelings of insecurity and ineffectiveness,” wrote another.

“From his published statements I get the impression that Goldwater Trump is basically a paranoid schizophrenic who decompensates from time to time. He resembles Mao Tse-tung,” said a third.

Not wanting to exclude other relevant 20th-century tyrants, another claimed, “I believe Goldwater Trump has the same pathological makeup as Hitler, Castro, Stalin, and other known schizophrenic leaders.”

Donald Trump is not a politician, he is a leader, politicians are a dime a dozen, leaders are priceless.

Those guys drive me crazy.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

There ARE some legitimately mentally ill people that need help but IMO they are far fewer and far between than Psychiatrists trying to make a buck or two want to admit. They are like lawyers in America, you could probably get rid of 2/3rds of them and we'd all be better off!

A couple of days ago there was a shooting in Metro Detroit where the company owner was shot and killed. According to several news reports it was a result of one worker harassing another.

WWJ Radio brought a mental health "professional" on the air, the usual blame, on the job pressures, peer and supervisory harassment and some other things I pretty much ignored.Well except at the end, he blamed "the easy access to firearms".

Nothing about the individual or those around him seeking professional help, management intervention, nope, blame the instrument. Problem is, at some point you run out ot instruments to blame, then what?

This was the first time in probably six months I had WWJ on my car radio, I just wanted to hear the weather forecast.

Are you suggesting mental illness isn't real, taking issue with the claims and treatments promoted by practitioners, or something else entirely?

I'm saying that aside from prescribing medications, better than 99% of what the "psychiatric community" says, believes, or tells their patients, is a bunch of made-up horse shit.

My dad is a retired PhD psychologist. I finally had to tell him that I dismissed the entire profession after the APA came out with a statement several decades back saying something like (paraphrasing here) childhood sexual abuse wasn't that bad because it didn't cause permanent physical or developmental damage in most cases. I explained to him that, just because the victim is strong enough to overcome the adversity, it doesn't mean you don't have scars that just don't show.

Hacks.

Buskers. Psychiatrists and Psychologists are great at explaining behavior after the fact. They are absolute shit at predicting it. Statistical analysis applied to an individual is and always will be a partial application. The individual is just way too complex.

As a forensic psychiatric RN, that is a serious accusation and an overstated gross generalization.
And not too far off the mark. Cool
