Those guys are brutal, just killed 4 cops, two gas station attendants, and a woman. Hopefully Mexico goes after these people, but there is so much corruption it is difficult to make headway.
-----------
Guanajuato, Mexico - Cartel gunmen in a small truck convoy quickly pull into a gasoline station and open fire on several people including four police officers. The gunmen specifically targeted the police officers who can be seen in the video parked in a two-tone Dodge Ram truck.

The incident happened at a gas station located at the corner of Daniel Ángel Ortega and Guadalupe Mandujano in the city of Apaseo del Alto in the state of Guanajuato.

As soon as the gunshots rang out all gas station employees and several customers immediately took cover. To the horror of onlookers, gunmen walked up to two gas station attendants and executed them shooting them in the head.

Two local police officers hearing the gunshots raced to the scene and were met with intense gunfire and were killed in their patrol car.

Following the gasoline shootout gunmen rode by a transit police booth and riddled it with bullets. Inside was a transit cashier and sadly she was also killed as a result of the gunfire.

This occurred a month or so ago. What a shame. Guanajuato is beautiful city that once was the second largest producer of silver in the world. Today those mine have been turned into a network of roads around town.

We’ve been there a half dozen times over the last 3 winters while wintering in nearby San Miguel de Allende.

We’re not going back this winter for this very reason. Way too much crime and corruption that has dramatically increased over the year.

A good number of the gunmen are former Mexican police or military who either discovered better pay and life-expectancy working for the cartels, or went into the service with that as an "end game" from the start. Highly trained, and very well-equipped.

It's easy to spot the honest lawmen (yes, there really are a good number of them down there.) They're the ones who looky very, very uneasy and on-edge.

Google "Los Zetas" for fun.

Great. I have to go to Guanajuato next week. I already wasn’t looking forward to it, and this isn’t helping.

If I understand (as much as anyone can) the situation in Mexico, it is the main source of illegal drugs that enter our country. The country seems hopelessly violent and corrupt. All this going on right at our doorstep.
And yet it is not viewed as a threat to our national security?
I just don't get it....

Remind me again about how well strict gun control laws work.

Our "Best Man" later married a woman from there and now lives there. They have been trying to get us to visit for 12 years now. I've been to Mexico a few times including a 2 week motorcycle tour throughout the country with said Best Man.
About 5 years ago the Mexican government confiscated his 3 year old SUV claiming he didn't import it correctly. Confiscated with a $10,000 fine. He has fought it and "won" but has been unable to get them to pay up.
So,bottom line, we will have to meet them somewhere safer. Not a chance in hell we are spending any time/money in Mexico.
