I swear everytime we go to the Dr. and get the bill AARP pays nothing. Does anyone else that is on Medicare find that same situation?

We didn't go with AARP, despite the fact my wife's a member (I refuse to be due to their anti-gun agenda).

My wife, doing her own research and working with two different consultants, found better deals, both price- and coverage-wise, elsewhere. She re-evaluates every year, and every year AARP comes up lacking.

Our out-of-pocket costs have been nearly non-existent since I retired three years ago.

We have Plan G.

My wife and I each have an AARP supplement. In the past 3 years I have had a total replacement of my right knee. My wife has breast cancer and has undergone two surgeries, chemo, radiation treatments, and is now on a hormone treatment for the next five years.

The AARP supplement has picked up any overage on anything that medicare approved. We have never had to pay for anything other than the cost of medicare and our supplements.

We have an agent that reviews our coverage every year. He has made changes to drug coverage based on our prescriptions. My wife has different drug coverage than I do as her drugs are more expensive. The agent does not charge us anything. He submits any changes to our coverage.

We had this service in Kansas and now in Ohio. We were told to continue with the medicare supplement we currently have as there is nothing better. The only time we have had a problem is if the doctor/hospital failed to bill THE AARP supplement and one phone call has always taken care of it.

The supplement covers all doctor visits, xrays/mri/cat scans etc. And any doctor or hospital anywhere that accepts medicare.

It has saved us 10’s of thousands of dollars if not more. My wife's chemotherapy was $35,000 a session. Total for surgeries, chemo and radiation between 400 and 500 thousand. No deductible with the supplement. Never paid anything other than the cost of medicare and the supplement, which runs each of us about 300 a month.

AARP is just a marketing company based around older people (in addition to their liberal politics) that skims a few percent off everything you buy that's branded with their name.
I have a plan G supplement with Blue Cross and a drug plan through a different company.

The cheaper supplemental plans(low premium} have deductibles and copays. The more expensive(higher premiums} have NO deductible or copay.

Clearly you chose the low premium plan. The carrier makes no difference as all plans are vetted by the government.

Don’t confuse a supplemental plan with an Advantage Plan. Worlds apart. Supplements which pay pretty well are +/- 150.00 month, or more. Advantage Plans are free or low cost monthly.

The supplement plan I have is through Aetna; the Rx plan through WellCare. Both were the best deal for the same coverage from competing insurers in my area.

Last year - since I had already satisifed my Medicare deductible - the entire cost of my emergency appendectomy was covered.

I have a difficult time understanding how anyone could be a member of or part of anything to do with the AARP, and still consider themselves a second amendment supporter.

If you are giving them money or purchasing something through them, you are supporting an organization bent on removing our guns rights.

That is correct. AARP does not have any medical, dental, or Rx plans. Companies that do use the AARP label and give them a cut of the action.

Whoever provides AARP with the insurance product also pays AARP a commission making this more profitable than their original advocacy purpose. The commission is built into the price structure.
