A New Kindle Clipping (a Note or Highlight), is simply appended to the end of all Clippings. That’s a lousy way to organize Clippings. I often re-read books, perhaps multiple times, adding more Notes and Highlights each time. Consequently, Clippings for that book are scattered through all of my Clippings, in no useful order. So I wrote a computer program to sort my Kindle Clippings. Three different sorts are applied in succession. The most significant sort is author name (alphabetic). The 2nd-most significant sort: Within each author range, Clippings are sorted by book title. (For several authors I have multiple books on my Kindle.) The 3rd-most significant sort: Within each book title range, Clippings are sorted by their numerical location in the book. Now that’s a useful organization! Furthermore, the wonderfully sorted Clippings file is on my MacBook, so I can open it with a text editor (I use emacs) to view it, and search for a word or phrase. Related clippings are often nearby, thanks to the good organization. I think that I did good on this project! BTW – When my Kindle is mounted (visible on my MacBook Desktop), the Clippings file is found at: /Volumes/Kindle/documents/My\ Clippings.txt Serious about crackers | ||
