My sister was building a new house in the middle of the covid building material price mess. With a fixed budget we went shopping for used on anything we could. We found a pretty decent selection of used countertops on the market for just the OP's reason, the owner wanted a different color or material. I didn't see any evidence on the ones we looked at that removal was a big issue, and we were often not the only people looking at them. In the end we got a great deal if we undertook removing them and so we did no big issues other than all of it is exceptionally heavy so you have to work around that issue. So I think you can remove and sell them (certainly not for a premium) no issues.

OP: that’s a whole lot nicer looking than I had imagined.

I’ll bet if you had your cabinets professionally repainted a white or very light gray, and got new hardware, those would look amazing. It’s the boring brown of the cabinets IMO that’s the problem NOT the countertops!

I had corian counter tops and just replaced with quartz. Removal of the corian was simple, cut caulk and remove. The corian had a small sub frame of plywood that was screwed into from below in a couple of spots. Removal of the entire kitchen counter tops (80 sqft of material), took me 15 minutes by myself. Well I did have a neighbor help me move the largest piece as it was heavy and awkward.

The new quartz countertops are just held in place by caulking. I imagine granite would be the same. Removal should be relatively quick and simple but larger pieces will be heavy so you might need a second set of hand.

I think your existing countertops look great. I’d stick with them.

I agree with this, but didn't have the heart to say it. Wink

Paint the ceiling beams too...

Thanks for the pics, r0gue. An interesting pattern for sure. I'd trade my craptastic black granite for what you have in a NY minute.

We changed the counter tops in the kitchen probably 20 years ago. Took out the old plastic stuff and had granite countertops installed. Wife loves them.

I see I’m not the only “proud” owner of “craptastic black granite” countertops…I’m too damned old to make a change now, but within a year of replacing the hideous bright blue Formica countertops (anybody remember them?) with the black granite, both my late wife and I knew we had made a bad choice Frown …but I will say that if you polish the shit out of them weekly, they are passable…but I really like the looks of rOgue’s kitchen (cabinets included Smile)

My wife wants new countertops. I read about quartz above and mentioned it. She looked it up and there is a long list of negatives for quartz. Not sure why it is popular if her list was correct.

I like your countertops. If you want to lighten up your kitchen I suggest painting those dark wood cabinets.

Looks like Blue Pearl granite in the pics, and I think it’s gorgeous! I’ve always wanted Blue Pearl tops, and got a quote last year, but it’s not in the cards. If you remove them, is there a flat rate USPS box they’ll fit in for me?!?! Big Grin
