Interesting. This area is by no means like the Gold Shore. Lots of cops and firefighters live in the area. CHICAGO — Another area of Chicago is hiring private security patrols to offset a shortage of police. A micro-grant from the city for $100,000 is helping provide the security detail for Beverley, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park businesses. 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea is hoping the extra security can help reduce property crimes and vandalism. The goal, he says, is to allow Chicago Police to focus on more serious violent crimes and carjackings. “My hope is that this private security can be an added deterrence or added level of safety,” O’Shea said. Business owners along busy 95th Street said they are grateful to see the extra layer of security. Kamacha Champion, owner of Miss Purl, a craft shop, is worried after other stores on 95th Street got broken into. “I absolutely feel safer and have an extra set of eyes and ears,” she said. Late last year and into this year, residents in Bucktown and Lincoln Park hired private security firms. LINK: https://wgntv.com/news/chicago...te-security-patrols/

Being from Chicago my next question would have to be; Does the Alderman or one of his relatives own the security company the guards are employed by?

If the police can't control the criminals, how effective is private security going to be. They would have more liability for criminal and civil suits. They might witness a crime but I doubt if they would stop one. Especially property crimes that the police have pretty much given up on in the big cities. _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." At least one Chicago cop on the forum lives in the area, I would like to defer to him to address the issue. As the article stated there are many cops and firefighters and city workers who live in Mount Greenwood.

Private Security does not equal police! Law Enforcement Officers have a very different role in their jurisdiction. They are trained in "use of force", firearms use, and non-lethal force, same as private security (at least in NH). However, the jurisdiction of Private Security is limited as far as "arrest" powers. Most security firms are subject to "detention" powers only, meaning they can securely hold a suspect (handcuff) until law enforcement arrives and makes the arrest. That being said, what looks like a cop (uniform, badge, and duty gear) is fair game for a thug. Security guards are a visual deterrent to crime, but have limited capabilities.

Back in the 50’ early 60’s we lived at 7714 S.Greenwood Ave. a block from Grand Crossing park. I can recall the mix of Italians, Germans & Poles getting ball bats and walking the neighborhood, if you didn’t belong there the entire neighborhood would be on your ass until you left. We had neighborhood watch before it was invented. The ball fields were never that crowded, folks just walked around with bats, seemed normal. There was no crime, no thugs, no nothing. Folks started to move out and the trash moved in. Our family left also.

The first use of force by security is going to make Floyd, Rodney King and Kenosha look like little league baseball in how the prosecutors and Biden Justus Department treats the officers if the recipient isn’t white. Mayor Troll Lightfoot will call for prosecutors to use all their power.

ZS- I'm guilty as charged. I live in Mt Greenwood. Nice little neighborhood on the south west corner of the city. And yes, you can toss a rock in any direction and hit 5 city workers. Those that aren't working for the City are predominantly in the Trades- plumbing, carpenters, electricians... Funny little side note; if you look at an election map, Mt Greenwood is one of the 3 neighborhoods that voted TRUMP! Hell, there's still MAGA flags flying here. Blue collar, middle class, callous hands, beer, bourbon and BBQ kinda neighborhood. Predominantly Irish neighborhood, and St Patrick's Day is a week or two of fun. Beverley, is the neighborhood just east of Mt Greenwood, (east of Western Ave) and predominantly white liberal twats. (However, there's a few Trump supporters in the mix there too!) a Alderman Matt O'Shea- I grew up with him. Poor bastard can do sooo, sooo much better. He "attempts" to be conservative, because that's the majority of his ward. It's a pathetically comical attempt. Does Matt own a security company? No. But there's a few security companies in the neighborhood that, well... Might contribute to Matt's election campaign. Maybe a little more if they got a contract. Crime has risen all over the City. Before, the crime rate was "accepted" when it was in the Ghetto, but under the progressive lightfoot regime, crime is all over! We're getting car jackings, shootings, armed / strong armed robberys... in parts of the city that never had those problems. (Downtown, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, Near North...) As of recent- there's been 3 shootouts (no one hit), a car jacking, an attempt car jacking, and a few armed robberies within a few blocks of my house. A lot of robberies in the stores along 95th St in Beverley. Yeah, there's a lot of Off Duty cops, and Concealed Carry out here, and it's only a matter of time until one of them does the right thing. Then that's going to open up a whole different can of worms. (Hint- it starts with "B", ends with "M", and "Lies" in the middle...) Ooohhhh, I feel sooo much safer now that there's going to be a few unarmed security guards in the neighborhood!!!! Because we don't want anyone to get hurt! ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Fucking animals Chicago: A large mob of people shut down the road and swarmed an elderly driver who was stuck in the street. https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/...ly-white-motorist%2F Appears to be no consequences with a police officer right there. He just waves them off the car, which I am sure is heavily damaged from all the people jumping on it. _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." HUGE fight last night in Boys Town / Belmont & Halstead area. Again, once quiet neighborhoods are seeing increases in violence and savagery at pictured above. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot.
