.........."Under the terms of the settlement announced Monday, the major credit bureau is paying a mix of government fines, legal fees and, most importantly for consumers, setting up a fund that will underwrite free credit monitoring, identity theft protection and individual cash payments to people affected by the breach, which are capped at $20,000 per person."..................

^^^ Agreed.

"Affected consumers will get four years of credit monitoring and identity protection..."

I already have several years of free credit card monitoring and identity protection from other company settlements.

Everyone affected can get up to $250 for time they spent dealing with the breech without documentation.

How does that work when the article says it amounts to $4 for each person affected? Curious...

Because only a small proportion will be successful is submitting the documentation. I got one dollar for submitting one years ago. It only took four years.

I’ll spend the time to submit. You might be surprised at how many don’t bother and the impact it has on those that do.

Couple years back I got $530 from a class action against ATT cellular when the “estimate” was $125.

There was a WA state class action over price fixing on LCD screens that was good for $300 plus.

Most recently was a “nuisance” settlement for folks living within 2 miles of a local composting facility. The $785K settlement could have been split by thousands, but my check alone was over $1100.

$500 for me and my wife? I’ll spend the time it takes to file the claim.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???
