Great win for Phil and that crowd was great for the game.

For a long while, there was a knock on him that he didn't have a green jacket. His comeback was how many other golfers had their own private jet like he did. Then he did win a green jacket.

This latest win is great. I applaud him.

Koepka speaking after the round…

"It would have been cool if I didn't have a knee injury and got dinged a few times in the knee in that crowd because no-one really gave a shit, personally," he said.

"If I was fine, yeah, it would have been cool. It's cool for Phil but getting dinged a few times isn't exactly my idea of fun.

"I don't mind waiting or being in that crowd. I don't know, it felt like somebody tried to, I don't know what the deal was. Be putting it in ice (tonight). It feels like shit right now."

Koepka was speaking after finishing equal second with South African Louis Oosthuizen, two strokes behind Mickelson, who at age 50 became the game's oldest major champion.

Koepka acted like the sore loser he is. What little respect I had for him in the past is gone now. Maybe his mommy will give him a hug and all will be good again.

In Koepka's defense, the crowd became an ununruly mob and it got really out of hand approaching the 18th green. The chaos even swallowed up Phil for a bit. He didn't look exactly comfortable with it either. I'm confident the Tour will take a serious look at security on that one.

Good on Phil. That was fun to watch and a real test of golf in some brutal conditions. I was a little north of Kiawah on Isle of Palms playing the links course at Wild Dunes this week and the wind was something else.

I don't know anything about golf but I caught the last few minutes of the game and it was exciting.

As the crowd first thronged into the fairway, it looked like someone had throw a chop block at some asshat lunging at Phil.

I was glued to the set for both weekend rounds and I'm exhausted. A true heavyweight fight with five two stroke swings between Phil and Brooks on Sunday. Phil looked totally wrung out by the end, I'm over the moon for him and golf.

I worked the security detail at the 2005 PGA championship. He is definitely a crowd favorite and was one of the nicest guys on the course. I was def pulling for him yesterday.

I watched Mickelson play as an amateur years ago and have been a fan since. It was an amazing accomplishment on his part to beat that field of players on that brutal course. Also good to see another old timer Padraig Harrington finish near the top.

I will say, though, what we witnessed with the crowd is why I rarely watch golf these days. The Masters this year was done so well and the crowd showed so much class that it was once again a joy to watch. This tournament, with presumably half drunk neanderthals screaming GET IN THE HOLE!!!! on every swing and the out of control exhibition on 18 was disgusting. This is golf, not hockey. The PGA needs to get this crap under control.

Gustopher, you reminded me of the fact that the PGA Tour and the PGA are two different organizations. The PGA is responsible for their championship, and presumably the security, not the Tour. In fact, the Tour owns none of the major golf championships, and it sticks in their craw a bit. They have tried for years, unsuccessfully, to elevate The Players to the same level as the majors.

As an example of the differences, the PGA allowed the grounding of the club in the sand because it is designated a sandy area as opposed to a sand trap. Another difference is that ranging devices were allowed during the tournament and the PGA Tour would never allow either of these changes to take place in a tour event.

Yeah, someone blew it by letting the crowd surround Phil and Koepka. And golf fans should know better, anyway.

Glad to see Phil win. He played well, and under difficult conditions, including being 50 years old.

Phil is gracious with fans, and is a popular winner. Now, if he can just get that U.S. Open. Wink

Great to see Phil win again and it was good to see a 'serious' Phil for a change, instead of the "I just want to have fun" Phil.

The US Open is at Torrey Pines this year and is basically in Phils back yard. He knows the course better than anyone and with his new mindset he has a very good chance at winning this year. I wish him luck and will be rooting for him.

Out of curiosity, when the PGA is playing in other small cities, does it shut everything down? Pretty well every restaurant and hotel in CHS was fully booked this weekend?

(CHS tends to be a drinking town, anyway - the bridge run is a bit surreal, in the bars.)

I hope it comes out that way, I really do. Anybody who has come in second at the U.S. Open six times should have won one of them, and clearly has the skill.

But I can't really say any 50 year old has a "very good" chance of winning any regular tour event, much less a major. Perhaps especially the U.S. Open.

It's been noted the Phil had a good history at Torrey Pines years ago but it was redesigned some time back and it hasn't suited Phil's game very well since.

FWIW Phil won at Pebble Beach in early 2019 and didn't come close when the US Open was played there later that year. Past success only carries so much weight.

Phil needed a special exemption to get in this year's US Open. He'll feel a little less pressure knowing yesterday's PGA win gets him in the Open for five more years. Smile

I cannot take credit for this PGA/LIV related joke…

As part of the merger, the PGA will control holes 1-8 and 12-18.

The Saudis do 9-11.
