Skybell user here too. The “basic” Ring model doesn’t have the greatest image quality, but it’s usable for sure. Nest is coming out with one in January I believe.

I have the original Ring Doorbell (720p) and on the second page of the Ring Mobile App on iPhone, is a bar on the menu for Live View or I guess View on Demand if thats what your talking about. You can activate Live View at any time just to check the front door entrance and activate audio if you wish, for listening and/or two-way talking to somebody at the door.. Normally the camera is activated by motion or physically ringing the doorbell. Though I cannot do a side by side of the 1080p/720p I can tell you that the camera is fine and clear on the 720p. More than I originally expected. You can also zoom in and move around the camera image if your looking around. Both the night vision and day images are just fine. I've never felt that I need to upgrade just for the 1080p. Now if I do decide that I'd like a stick up cam and install it on the driveway or my back yard as opposed to a close up at the front door, I'd like to have the higher resolution just for the distances needed. But a person up close at the front door, 720p is fine by my needs.

Thanks, good to know. If we're pleased with this one, I may add on one of the spotlights for the driveway & one on the back door.

Our house has a blank plate above the front & back doors, so I assume that there is wiring behind there.

Mine runs exclusively on the rechargeable battery. I usually get 2 good months from a charge. My usual normal daily traffic is about 6-12 motion activations between the comings and goings of the wife and PO carrier and/or other deliveries.


Additionally fyi, you can download the Ring App for your computer also as it's sometimes easier on the eyes to view it much larger or full screen. You can also delete image files and get the audio also with the App. I have it installed on my 15" macbook.

it works with my security alarm. I can see it on the security alarm display or security alarm app.

I'm a fan. Para let me post a discount code a while back which he linked earlier in the thread. As long as you have electricity and wifi, I don't think there's anything better out there unless you don't buy the $3 monthly cloud fee. In that case, you might be better served by a hard-wired system with a DVR.

What I've been most impressed with from Ring is the customer service. It's almost like they want my business.

Yea, it will take a little time to get familiar with the settings, but after you dial it in for your needs, she'll be good to go for some time. I just went to my bank which is about 20mi from here and I got a motion alert and checked it to find the wife coming in from being out this morning. It still is kinda neat using that feature, something I never dreamed of 20yrs ago!

We have it for the last few months and really like it. In fact I have access to my BIL / Sister's door bell and can see their video and they have access to ours. For Christmas this year, we will be purchasing one for my brother and his significant other. God Bless

The Pro version + WiFi extender + WiFi chime is on sale for $199 today only at Best Buy. Requires hard wired power.

We upgraded to the pro edition and couldn’t be happier. Better image quality, fewer false alerts and it handles different lighting areas way better (shadowed porch but isn’t washed out in the portions of the approach that are in the sun).

Loving the Pro. This is turning out to be very entertaining as well. I’m pretty sure my mail lady did a double take and didn’t look happy about the camera, even though we have not had any issues.
