Co-worker bought one on black friday & he wife doesn't want it, so he was going to return it.

We think we may have had 3 packages stolen off of our porch last night, something to the tune of $600 worth of products, the camera would have been nice to have.

Thoughts on the standard/base Ring doorbell? Coworker is offering it up for what he paid, about half price what's listed on the Ring website.

Pros/cons?

At a good price, buy it. I don't have the doorbell but I have 2 stick up cams and a floodlight cam and couldn't be happier with them. The doorbell has more of a fishbowl view but if the price is right you'll love it.

Love mine. I have the wired version of the doorbell on the front door, solar panel powered cam on the side door and wired floodlight cam above the garage.

I've had mine for about two months now and I love it. The motion detection can be a little sensitive, but I'd rather have it recording too much than not enough.

I've used it to speak remotely w/ people at my door twice now.

Package thieves will undoubtedly be caught on tape.

I've also received a "neighborhood warning" sort of thing through the Ring app which was generated when one of my neighbors posted an alert with a video of a suspicious person in the area taken by their Ring doorbell. I didn't even realize that feature existed, so that was pretty cool.

I know there's lots of competition, but I did my comparison shopping and went with Ring in the end anyway. Very happy with its performance so far.

Had mine for about a year and a half. Works great and very good customer service if you have questions or need anything. Thinking about a floodlight cam next for the back yard pool deck area.

Have one for almost a year. I love it. Always see when stuff is dropped off at the end of the driveway, and keep an eye on the teenagers coming and going at all hours.

One thing to keep in mind, based on where your doorbell is, would it be able to see someone taking packages? Or would the view be obstructed?

All cameras do is identify who did the deed. They do not tell you who's going to do the deed nor does it stop the deed.

With that - wife and I do plan on a few hi-res cameras to identify thieves and unsavory sorts.

I love it, I've had it for about 2 months.

I have the battery version, it works for aout a month between charges, and that was with me messing with it pretty heavily.

Battery charges in about 5 hours, so if you get a low batt, pull it when you get home and before bed you should be back running again.

it does have a few backing plates to tilt the camera a little up or down and or left and right.

This was very handy for me. I highly recommend it.
Plus as soon as my kids get home from school I get to say hi and speak to them before they go in for snacks etc.

Just bought one from Amazon on black friday for $99. Install was very straightforward & easy. Im impressed so far. There seems to be a slight lag and image isn't 1080 like the Ring 2 that costs twice as much. Depending on placement, video may not be great, as ours is in direct sun and washes out the video somewhat. But for $100, I'm still very pleased. The sensitivity/range and alerts are very customize-able and I like how you can send alerts to me and my wifes phone.

Right, I don't believe there would be any issue with getting them on video. Our UPS guy is pretty consistent with where he leaves packages.
I'll have to the the angle mount, though. As our doorbell is 90* to the front door.

Easy - it comes with a specific mounting plate for that scenario.

Mine didnt come with an adapter plate. Ring sells one for $20 or $30. Also, on the regular Ring - it can run off of a battery and mount where you like, or direct wire it to existing doorbell for power. I wrongly assumed the existing doorbell wouldnt work when I hardwired it, so I also bought the Ring Chime. (a small speaker you can plug into any wall outlet that functions like a regular doorbell chime) I'm just going to keep it and probably use it on our back patio.

Since activating the Ring Chime in the kitchen, I often switch the alert to the "Dogs Barking" mode when my wife is in the kitchen to drive her crazy! When folks ring the doorbell the dogs start barking so some may be testing it to see if your home and the dogs barking is just a little extra protection. From the phone app you can activate the Chime or even change the alert mode. You can program it to alert in 20 different modes but the dogs barking mode is amusing especially when the cat hears it! They even added some musical Christmas time alerts for the Season.

I just went into the Ring Chime alert modes and I must have missed the added "Turkey Gobble" alert chime...must have added it during Thanksgiving. Would have come in handy when the wife was cooking the turkey last week! The Dogs and The Turkey sound pretty good actually.

I'm reading the specs correctly, the base (the one on my desk at the moment) is 720p video with no view on demand.
All models above the base 1080p video with view on demand.

Sound correct?

I have a SkyBell, a competitor to Ring, doorbell.

It'll record movement, it'll notify me of a doorbell press, I can speak to people through it via my iPhone, and I can initiate video from my iPhone.
