bald1Do we have any Seiko Automatic watch collectors/enthusiasts here? ** new question at bottom, I broke a watch**
The mention of kinetics reminded me that I had this non-USA model which after a number of years of ownership was gifted to my youngest son who was quite taken with it.

It's an 1997 SKJ048P1 with a 5M43 movement. The capacitor has been replaced twice that I know of and the watch still keeps perfect time and is in great shape given its age.
Apparently its quite rare with asking prices now multiples of what I paid for it back in the day.

stickman428Kinetic watches intrigue me. They seem like a friendly compromise between analog awesomeness and digital accuracy. I need to get one. My eco drive is neat and I love that the sun helps power it and mine have been accurate so long as they have radio signal reception. When they lose signal reception their accuracy suffers slightly.

stickman428I like various designs so I’ll surely get a kinetic watch eventually. For the time being fixing this wonderful thing is my main focus. It might just be a project to learn on at this point.

stickman428Would it be expensive to buy the tools to disassemble and attempt to fix this Seiko?

Excellent but VERY BUSY. Wait times may be an issue.

Not terribly. You need a tool to open the case back. A JAXA TOOL is a common type. A good pair of tweezers to hold the second hand. You can use the eraser on a pencil as a hand pusher. The biggest issue is removing and replacing the stem so you can get the movement out of the case. Not difficult if you know what you are doing. Check YouTube for the watch repair channel.

JR78Bought a 7002 at Clark AB in 1989. It’s gone to war 4 times, been repaired twice and has had numerous bands. But most of all, it’s damn cool.

stickman428Well, International Watch Works is not going to be an option. They no longer work on the 4205 movement. Everything I’m reading online seems to indicate that the 4205 is a fairly small, compact movement. I’m probably going to send it to Seiko since they will do a free watch analysis. If it’s a lot of money to fix it then I might try to fix it myself.
