When I moved into my house 5 years ago, one of the things that my wife and I agreed on was that the counters must go at some point. So today is the day that the installers are here. Goodbye ugly blue counter tops, in with the new(I will still need to get the new back splash up). 103 sq. feet of granite:

Update:
The installers are done. I still need to hook up the drains & faucets. My wife is out of town for the week, so I'll have to wait until she gets back to start on choosing a new backsplash (it will go up to the bottom of the cabinets). The under cabinet florescent light will be replaced with LEDs, and a new stove(gas, as I HATE cooking with the electric smooth top range), and a new fridge is in the plans. The big improvement is the prep sink. The old one was a small bar sink (10"x14" or whatever). New one is a full 23"x19"x9"(the old one fits fully inside the new one).

Nice improvement!

I'm definitely not an anti-laminate snob, but that blue was pretty nasty.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Gorilla Grip seam sealers

The "rollers" on top of the (vacuum) grips allow you to use the palm of your hands to "roll" adjust the gaps and level of the two pieces of granite.

Or maybe they are defibrillator, for when you see the final invoice...

Nice improvement. Though I must say, if you waited a while longer, odds are that "country blue" would roll back into style.

Nice move on going with modern granite and keeping the decades old florescent lighting under the cabinets.

Not many would have the panache to pull that off or even try but congrats to you on doing it.

Used to pull and level the two sections of the countertop together so they can be glued.

Really like the white Granite.

Ours is black granite and at times makes the kitchen a bit dark.

Looks great!

I'll take a wild guess here about the countertop, Sgt Neutron.

St. Cecelia L/P. And you (she) chose the leather side on top.

If so, one question. Were you advised to seal it? Every one or two years?
